Suggestions for good quality cashmere

I know it's not the season, but I need recommendations for where I can buy a good-quality plain-coloured cashmere cardigan.

I jyst want something standard and boring but that, crucially, does not pill. I.e. good quality, long fibre cashmere.

I'm willing to pay, but am hoping not to have to stretch to Brora though will if I have to .

Please don't suggest M&S; they now use cheap short fibre cashmere that pills when you breathe on it and is of such poor quality that I took my last purchase back and complained.

Boden.
There eBay overstocks shop has some cashmere out of season.

BikeRunSki · 11/06/2013 07:01

"Their" Shock

PiratePanda · 11/06/2013 07:13

I had, however, heard that Boden had recently gone the way of M&S quality-wise. Can you reassure me on that front?

I have 2 cashmere sweaters and two cardigans and various scarves from www.mypashmina.co.uk. The Sweaters have lasted four years and still going strong with plenty of wear. The best thing is they treat their workers well in Nepal and prices are reasonable.

It's also a small business which I do like to support.

HeyLuciani · 11/06/2013 09:25

Marking my place - always after more cashmere! I wasn't impressed with Boden this season - thought it was very thin and didn't feel soft compared to previous years so I sent it back. M&S was also rubbish. Have bought loads from them in previous years but the jumper I got this year developed holes after about 6 wears - they sent it off for 'testing' then told me there was nothing wrong with it/must be my fault so I couldn't have a refund Angry, won't be shopping there again, they can sod off!

PiratePanda · 11/06/2013 09:43

Thanks Luciani - that's what I'd heard about Boden too.

Try Scotweb - really good quality.

Interesting to know about about Boden. My only cashmere jumper of theirs is two years old.

JazzDalek · 11/06/2013 10:39

Pure Collection summer sale is on, you might find something there. I've only had one cashmere jumper from them, though, and that was a couple of years ago, so I can't speak for the current offerings. Also don't know about different kinds of cashmere, sorry!

JazzDalek · 11/06/2013 10:40

Also, you probably know, but Brora do have quite a lot of cashmere still in clearance. It's still out of my price range Envy but might be in yours?

PiratePanda · 11/06/2013 11:50

Sadly the Brora clearance cardigans seem to be either enormous or in their dingiest colours (or both). Any other views on Pure?

Johnstons of Elgin is lovely quality.

Boden is not the best anymore. Pure cashmere is pretty good. It does pil but the softness is wonderful.

Autograph cashmere always comes up enormous in sizing as it shrinks like a beast. However it does wear well. Pils too mind.

I tried a cropped Cardigan from Brora but it was too boxy on me and too long. It didn't feel supersoft either but they wear well apparently.

John Lewis cashmere wears well. It isn't the softest but it doesn't pil much and keeps it's shape well without too much shrinkage.

PiratePanda · 11/06/2013 14:55

Am liking the recommendations for Johnstons and John Lewis.

I don't care so much about softness, but I hate pilling, and it just isn't true that cashmere pills as a matter of course - only cheap cashmere does.

try woolovers.co.uk my mum has used them and highly recommends.
think new customers get a discount too :)

SilviaCrocodile · 11/06/2013 18:21

Have had lots from Pure and like them, particularly fond of their summer weight products, although gassato pills. well priced, though

BikeRunSki · 12/06/2013 18:00

Woolovers don't do pure cashmere though.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 12/06/2013 23:36

Uniqlo cashmere is very good quality although they only carry it in A/W.

justasecond · 13/06/2013 13:38

I have a J Crew cashmere jumper which is brilliant quality, I have not worn it loads yet but it feels and looks like it will last.

Sleepwhenidie · 13/06/2013 14:06

Brora is the best I have found but JCrew is apparently fantastic quality and they have the most amazing range of colours...

PiratePanda · 13/06/2013 16:48

Ooh. J Crew. Good reccomendation.

PiratePanda · 13/06/2013 16:48

And yes to Uniqlo too, though it's a bit thin.
