Are "proper" razors worth it?

I shave my legs and underarms as I don't get on with waxing or epilating. Legs are done every two/three days - underarms every 4-5 days (more often in the summer).

I normally use disposable razors but I keep looking at the adverts for proper razors and wondering.

So are they any good? Better than disposables?

I think so but currently using disposables. Can't bring myself to spend that much money on real blades.

Also using dh razor but don't tell him!

Lidl men's razors are good

Are you using the disposable all-in-one type?
My DH has tried all types.
Single use, electric , replaceable heads.
At the moment he's on the Aldi ones (Can't remember how much they cost.I bought the handle + heads starter, then topped up with spare heads)

He's happy with them on his bristle.

Or if you can't do wax/epilation why not look at an electric one?
Rechargeable would be good.

I much prefer men's gillet razors to any of the female or disposable razors - just switching the heads, fewer Knicks and better results.

I use the wilkinson sword Quattro for women, you keep the handle and chuck the blade cartridge after a few months weeks. It has a mesh thing and I've never cut myself with it. Blades seem to last ages. I always cut myself with anything else. Also, I use cheap conditioner instead of shaving stuff (sainsburys basics).

Dh has been using the razors from Iceland which look like the posh blokes ones with a handle and replaceable blades. Handle plus 5 blades cost £1. He is more than happy with them and on the odd occasion I borrow one format legs I'm very happy too Grin

Yes they are. Get a man's razor. They're the best. Anything Mach3 is brill.

Okay, so pretty much unanimous there then! But not Venus or anything "designed" for ladies - more the gents variety (which I must admit does look less lethal than the big bladed jobs I was looking at!).

Thanks all! Thanks

I really like the Venus, and find it leaves my legs really smooth without feeling like it's scraping, but the price of the blades is a killer.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 10/06/2013 20:52

Yes, dispsables are awful, cut me to shreds. I use Gillette Venus, trouble is some of the heads are better than others but a pack lasts me so long I can never remember which ones I liked.

MedusaIsHavingaBadHairday · 10/06/2013 21:54

Mach 3 here too.. no comparison! I have tried all sorts and always go back to DH's mach 3 blades.

(He has given up and grown a beard in protest :D)
