Can anyone recommend a good primer? I once had a free sample of a Clarins one and I liked that, but before I invest in that one are there any others that a worth a look?

Smashbox is the one everyone rates-I think it's quite good but pricey. £25+ depending on where you get it.

Apparently, Lanacane, the anti-chafing stuff has identical ingredients to Smashbox- I find the texture thicker and it's only £6-ish.

However, my favourite primer is L'Oreal studio secrets (I think that's what it's called, can't be arsed to get off the sofa and check, sorry!) It's a thick pink cream in a pot and it really fills pores and leaves a matte, smooth surface. £15 approx.

Only downside is the combo of my nails and the small pot means the primer can be hard to get out towards the end!

Milk of Magnesia is my holy grail primer, I have oily skin and it keeps me matte all day and my make up stays on too.

Chanel Base Lumiere is brilliant, not too heavy (I have dry skin). It depends on how solid you want to go...

I've never used a primer before (TBH I don't wear make-up much) but my skin got a pink flushed last week (after sitting out for DD Sports Day. Yes I DID wear face-screen but I didn't anticipate how warm it was)

I have a Bare Minerals Primer that I got in a kit. Initially I thought "Urgh, what colour is that " but it's fine when it's on.
Before that I had Philosophy Supernatural (again from a kit, not something I'd buy) . It's a peachy colour but fine on my skin.

I wear the Bare Mineral or Laura Geller baked powder foundation.

What skin type are you ? I'm currently using the Nivea primer -

Since I have oily skin I've also been using some Avene products and have found that in particular the soapless cleanser has been great for balancing out my skin.

The combination of these two has meant that my makeup is staying on a lot longer

Lanacane anti chaff is fantastic and same ingredients as the Smashbox one apparently.

I love Boots No 7 matte primer - really works well.
