Belly button piercing

Sister is seriously considering a belly button piercing. She only knows of one other person who has one and they had a bad experience with it but I guess that's down to where you go. So, I'm asking you mnetters if you could give me all the ins and outs of a belly piercing for me to pass onto sister. Thanks in advance!

I had mine done about 16 years ago. No problems with it, I forget it's there most of the time. I would definitely recommend a ring, not a bar, as there's nothing to catch on clothing. I've got other piercings with bars, in less 'catchy' places, but they do snag from time to time. My ring never has done. I'm sure a bar would snag on tights etc.

I had a ring at the first piercing & wished I'd had a bar. I worked in an office & my waistband of my skirt kept rubbing on it. It didn't seem to heal & kept weeping. I used a Savlon spray I think to clean it. I changed to a bar & it healed fine. I wore a plastic flexible bar whilst I was pregnant. I don't regret having it done. I have had mine done for 15 years now.

When I had mine done years ago I was advised to get a small glass of warm salted water, turn it upside down and leave it sitting on top of the piercing for about 5 mins every so often to stop it getting icky. Seemed to do the job. I loved it but had to take it out when pregnant & haven't put it back yet. Some tight waistbands were a bit uncomfortable but agree with PP re: bikinis - it looks great!

I have mine done, got it done whilst backpacking - was persuaded to by the oh so fit but total sleaze bag bloke I was shagging seeing at the time. Looked fab with a flat tummy and bikini for a good few years.

Was told I had to take it out at my first scan in my first pregnancy and didn't really have a plan for putting it back in and never got round to it. I agree at a bit mutton after about 30 anyway. The holes/scar don't bother me though.

I had mine done last August. It didn't hurt at all. The guy that did it said it would take about three months to heal and to clean it with salt water for three weeks. I have a belly bar.

Never had any problems with it. Initially after showering I would use the hair dryer on cool around the navel area to dry it rather than use a towel.

I saw lots on holiday last year and they looked great which was the incentive for getting mine done. I wear bikinis on holiday so cannot wait for this years hol!
