Now that theres a bit of sun I need to get my feet out. Have worn red nail varnish for years on my feet and fancy a change-anyone bought any nice colours recently? What brand is good? I have the same gloopy one I've had for a couple of years now....Thanks!

Opi atomic orange

Lottapianos · 04/06/2013 13:40

As a budget option I think you can't beat Rimmel. I love Coralista - it's a pinky red coral colour, I always get compliments on it. For something darker but very classy looking, use Black Cherries, Urban Purple or Desire (all also Rimmel) with a shiny top coat (I use Seche Vite).

OPI colours are truly excellent but a lot more pricey - £10+ for a bottle. Absolutely worth it if you like the colour though.

LulaPalooza · 04/06/2013 14:11

I agree that as a budget range Rimmel polishes are really good. Fairly long lasting and nice colour ranges. Another budget range that does decent polish with decent brushes is Barry M. The problem with cheap nail polish is that the brushes are almost always rubbish.

My favourite mid-range brands, are OPI, Nails Inc and Essie. Ciate polishes are also nice. You can get decent deals on Essie and OPI on Amazon and also on Nail Polish Direct.

If I want to splurge I go for Dior, Butter London or Illamasqua.

What colours are you thinking about, blimey?

holidayseeker · 04/06/2013 14:18

I love Essie polishes and the limited editions they have in Boots are often good colours

badblueeyeliner · 04/06/2013 15:16

The Pro range from Rimmel is the one to go for. Essie good too.

Keztrel · 04/06/2013 16:06

Essie and OPI are the best IME for being long lasting, easy to apply in only one or two coats and great colours.

Just bought Essie Madison Ave Hue - bright fuchsia pink with tiny silver flecks. Not too Barbie-like for a pink and great on toes.

Also just bought OPI Do You Lilac It which is gorgeous - purple enough to not make you look like a corpse, but still lilac, iyswim. OPI is usually only £6-8 if you buy it on Amazon or eBay.

GobblersKnob · 04/06/2013 16:31

OPI and China Glaze are both really good.

Buy from Nail Polish Direct or Amazon, have never paid more than £4-£6 for them.

Keztrel · 04/06/2013 16:34

YY China Glaze are great. I just bought their shade called Fancy Pants, it's a really lovely bluebell colour with subtle pink shimmer. I don't normally like blues, except for navy, but this one's purple enough to not look weird. It's very cheerful and summery :)

shopafrolic · 04/06/2013 18:12

I have to say the new Maybelline long lasting polishes are pretty good. I have it on my fingernails at the moment and it's stayed put since Friday night which is unheard of for me usually.

blimeyohriley · 04/06/2013 21:11

Thanks everyone so much for all these suggestions!

Looks like I'll be having a little look on eBay/amazon!

Lula - well I like fuschia pink, nude, maybe even some neon??! or am I too old for that

ENormaSnob · 04/06/2013 21:58

I am really liking the Leighton Denny one (viva la diva) I've got on my toes atm.

It's a lovely light summery red and is ridiculously shiny.

LulaPalooza · 05/06/2013 12:36

blimey I am 41 and have all the colours of the rainbow in my ridiculously large nail polish collection, including neons and brights. I don't think anyone is too old for fab nails! My Mum is 64 and has a similarly large collection. She often sports rainbow toes - does each toe a different colour. I am too lzy for that.

For a nice nude polish try Maybelline Rose Poudre.

For a fab bright pink with a very slight shimmer try Essie Super Bossa Nova or Ciate Cupcake Queen

YY to Leighton Denny Viva La Diva... it's on my wish list (am on a self-imposed nail polish buying ban)

Elenkalubleton · 05/06/2013 19:31

Had acrylics for ten years decided to give myself a break nails always been poor splitting peeling.read about solar oil cannot believe my nails are the best they have ever been, took 5 months until I saw an improvement, can only buy it on line lasts ages, great stuff.

Allthingspretty · 05/06/2013 19:46

You cam get leighton denny nail barnish free with jarpera magazine and a mini caviar nail set by ciate wih marie claire so Lulu you wouldnt really ne breaking your nail polish ban if they happen to come free with magazines.

AlwaysSleepingBeauty · 05/06/2013 20:21

I love OPI, Essie and Chanel. My nan also recommends Mavala, and she is usually right about these things!

PavingAnotherRoad · 05/06/2013 21:44

I can't believe the difference Revlon Top Coat has made to the finish of my nail varnishes. Two coats of any nail varnish I have (and they are usually really, really cheap ones! Think Barry M, Rimmel etc) plus one coat of Revlon top coat always looks smooth and super shiny.

Which is odd because I have tried some of the Revlon colours, and didn't rate the quality at all.

Mamab33 · 05/06/2013 22:21

I agree with AlwaysSleepingBeauty's suggestions! Smile

mysteryfairy · 06/06/2013 06:43

Seche Vite is only £6 on amazon,

Fragrance direct has a wide range of OPI for £3.99 and Essie for £1.99. I bought three of the Essie summer 2012 colours - a cornflower blue, a lilac and a pink, all of which are lovely. Google the colours if you are thinking of ordering as some of them aren't very accurate on the site.

jackstini · 06/06/2013 07:46

My fave pink at the moment in Sensationail Kitten Heel - has been on toes now for 5 weeks and not one chip!
Also liking their Love Struck, cross between pink & red

LulaPalooza · 06/06/2013 11:40

I'm wearing Essie Jelly and Jam on my toes today (new sandals required new nails)

Allthingspretty I like your thinking! Thanks for the heads up

velvetysquirrel · 06/06/2013 14:11

I like Barry M nail varnishes, they do loads of different colours and it lasts pretty well. They are cheap too Grin.
