Hi All, I currently use Chanel Vitalminere in no 40 and have run out but dont have the money at the moment to buy a new bottle and I have literally none left. Would anyone have any recommendations for a cheaper bottle to replace it with - thinking Rimmel, Maybelline etc. Thanks in Advance

I've been pretty pleased with the Soap and Glory one. I'm v pale and they do one called The Fairest Of Them All. It's not bad at all and I think it was £11.

cocolepew · 01/06/2013 22:14

Most people who use the Chanel one recommend the Bourjois healthy serum one. On here anyway Grin

Fairylea · 01/06/2013 22:19

Chanel and bourjois are the same make up company. I used to work for chanel :) some of the products are identical, save for the packaging.

Personally I love no 7 everyday foundation I think it's called... really excellent. And pale without being pink!

NomDeOrdinateur · 01/06/2013 22:19

Bourjois - apparently made by the same people as Chanel. Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation = medium-full coverage, long-wearing, non-dewy but not matte (my favourite, as you can get sheerer coverage by diluting with moisturiser if desired but you can also build it when you need to); Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum = sheer-medium coverage, less long-wearing, quite dewy; Bourjois 24 Hour Sleep Effect = sheer coverage, not long-wearing, quite dewy. I think Healthy Mix is quite beige, 24 Hour Sleep is more peachy. There's a new one called 123 Perfect but the reviews have been very mixed so I'm sticking to Healthy Mix - IMO it's the best drugstore foundation ever, and lots of S&B people agree Smile.

Ooops, cross-posts!

womma · 01/06/2013 22:20

Bourjois Healthy Serum is brilliant, as is the concealer. They're often included in special offers at Boots. Get yourself down there missy, you'll never look back

NomDeOrdinateur · 01/06/2013 22:21

Fairylea - care to share any insider tips on precisely which products are identical, pretty please? Grin

pleasestophidingskinnygirl · 01/06/2013 22:37

Thanks guys - this is my first mumsnet post and even though I lurk ALL the time and read everyone elses post, I didnt think anyone would answer mine so thanks - will be visiting boots first thing tomorrow:) PS is there any particular shade ye would recommend in the Bourjois Healthy range - I know I'm asking a lot. I would have a reddish complexion

Seriously the rimmel 25hr foundation is fantastic, and this comes from a foirmer Tom ford user!

Fairylea · 01/06/2013 22:46

Nom - I would tell you if I could but I haven't worked for chanel for years now so I have no idea! But I absolutely and utterly guarantee the products are the same - I (still) have friends who work for the production lines and marketing ideas boards for both!

justasecond · 01/06/2013 22:49

I recently bought the bourjois healthy mix and think its great. I have always used high end foundations, chanel, dior, ysl etc and I think this one is on a par with them. I use shade 53 beige clair but I am asian with fair but yellow toned skin. I think the only thing with it is that there is a limited number of shades compared to higher end brands but if you can find one to match your skin then great.

justasecond · 01/06/2013 22:52

Oooh Fairylea thats really good to know. I always wondered whether it was an urban myth that they were the same products. I feel another trip to Superdrug coming on...

karinmaria · 01/06/2013 22:58

I use Bourjois products and love the healthy serum foundation. It just seems to make my skin glow. And yep Bourjois is made by Chanel although I wouldn't know (although I'd like to! Hint!) which products are identical.

In the same vein Maybelline, Clinique and Garnier are all made by L'Oreal and even the seemingly 'off-beat' Benefit is made by either Estée Lauder or Shiseido.

Amazinggg · 01/06/2013 23:12

I came on to recommend Healthy Mix, but you've been well advised already Grin

Fairylea · 01/06/2013 23:15

Lauder make clinique. And mac and Bobbi brown, origins, aveda, stila, and obviously Lauder products themselves!

Loreal do not make clinique. They make lancome, maybeline, garnier etc.

I've probably forgotten a few but I can't remember any more now! :)

Ysl and no 7 were also made in the same factory but I don't know if that's still the case. Their touch eclat and no 7 equivalent are identical as far as I can see. They used to have the same address on the packaging too!

I have no idea about Benefit. When I worked in cosmetics it was quite separate but it may have been brought out.

valiumredhead · 01/06/2013 23:16

I'd be seriously annoyed if I'd wasted my money on Chanel as I thought the Bourgois one was rubbishGrin

Blondie1984 · 01/06/2013 23:18

Benefit is made by LVMH - who make Dior, Guerlain....

valiumredhead · 01/06/2013 23:18

Bourjois I mean-I'm on my phone! I buy bare minerals on Ebay for half the price and have done for a couple of years now but have tried the Rimmel one and liked it.

chickydoo · 01/06/2013 23:18

Another Healthy mix fan here.
Used Estée Lauder for years, but was spending a fortune.
Healthy mix with Mac primer underneath. Lovely glow that stays for the day.
Light but olive skin tone, use no 53

NomDeOrdinateur · 01/06/2013 23:39

Thanks Fairylea, that's fascinating. I'm not surprised, so much of the Bourjois stuff is lovely...

karinmaria · 02/06/2013 02:40

I get Clinique mixed up with Lancôme every time... Thanks Fairylea :)

ZaraW · 02/06/2013 05:30

I thought Stila no longer belong to Estee Lauder. That's one of the reasons I use them as quite a few of the companies that belong to EL test on animals to enable them to sell in China.

SundaySimmons · 02/06/2013 06:27

Max factor face finity. Very good value for money.

TheBirdsFellDownToDingADong · 02/06/2013 15:59

My current favourite cheapo is Maybelline Eraser. Seriously better than any posh £££s foundation I've used.

I quite liked the Health Mix but even the 51 (IIRC) was too dark for me (am mozzarella faced) . I mixed it with a palest of pale posho CD one and then it was fine.
