US shoe sizes

Have seen a pair of shoes on a us website that I love and are reasonably priced.

What are us sizes like?

I'm usually a 6 - is this a us size 9?

Help??

I thought 9 is a size 7. I wear uk 5 or 5.5 / 6. A us 7 sometimes fits, depending on shoe. Or a us 8.

AgeingFop · 01/06/2013 09:41

US sizes are generally about 2 larger than UK. So, size 8 (US) = size 6 (UK).

BUT, it's not always an exact mapping. See this. Also, might be worth checking with the website of the manufacturer you are buying.

AllThreeWays · 01/06/2013 09:51

US 8 = UK 6 = eur 37

hollyisalovelyname · 01/06/2013 11:17

Uk 6 = 39 i think, or 40

hollyisalovelyname · 01/06/2013 11:17

I agree uk and us not exact conversion

foxysocks · 01/06/2013 11:38

annoyingly i find it really depends.

i am a UK5 (sometimes 5.5) and this year have bought two pairs in US8 that are perfect but the boots I got last winter in a US7 are HUGE. and it was flipping shopbop so couldn't face the returns charges, can only wear with massive socks.

rubylovescheese · 01/06/2013 11:51

chablis what brand is it?

AllThreeWays · 01/06/2013 13:49

oops yes i was converting a US 6

ChablisLover · 01/06/2013 16:37

I just got back from the US and bought a few pairs whilst there. I'm usually a 7 or 7.5, depending on style, and I got 9.5 and 10s.

ChablisLover · 01/06/2013 19:18

Oh I'm even more confused now!

mirpuppet · 01/06/2013 19:21

Can't you try on here? Somewhere like Selfridges probably carries Sam Edelman.

FairPhyllis · 01/06/2013 19:30

It's usually two whole numbers up from the UK size. But obviously fit is slightly different from manufacturer to manufacturer and depends on the style. Like how I can sometimes wear a UK 8, but usually I need an 8.5 or a 9 to accommodate my sticky up toes.

SofaCanary · 01/06/2013 19:43

I'm a UK7 and just checked the box of my Sam Edelman Abbotts - US9.

Hope that helps a bit.

ChablisLover · 01/06/2013 19:45

I'm in Northern Ireland.

The only place I've seen them is in harvey nichols in Dublin and that's 2 hours drive away.

Plus dh would have a fit if I was even considering buying shoes from there!

If anyone has sen them in Belfast please let me know.

OP posts:
ChablisLover · 01/06/2013 19:45

So sofa that would mean to order a 6

OP posts:
ChablisLover · 01/06/2013 19:46

Sorry meant to say a size 6 would be an 8 then

OP posts:
ChablisLover · 01/06/2013 19:48

Hang on a minute - does kg carry them or house of Fraser??

I can get to those shops.

OP posts:
SofaCanary · 01/06/2013 19:49

In theory yes but I'd say SE are a bit on the small side, great for me cause I've got skinny feet. Maybe get an 8.5 to be on the safe side?

rubylovescheese · 01/06/2013 20:57

I would go for the 9 as my gigi's are quite narrow. what colour are you buying?

ChablisLover · 01/06/2013 23:12

Am thinking the 9.

Shopbop customer services said a 9 but I might measure my feet first.

Am thinking of boring black. Haven't had a pair of black sandals for years and I think they are missing from my collection.
