Rihanna / River Island...tell me I'm too old!

If you really, really liked something...but it was Rihanna for River Island..what would you say was the cut off age to wear it? (not anything revealing/ overly trendy 'young' looking as such - ) I wear a lot of River Island. I love a jacket and a maxi dress from Rihanna's range. I don't normally go by age for most stuff. But I feel..I'm too old for designed by Rihanna (and a friend told me, too old for River Island!) I know I'm too old whispers 42 Blush

Link!

ProtegeMoi · 01/06/2013 00:31

Can't decide without a link.

ProtegeMoi · 01/06/2013 00:33

If the maxi dress the black one, I'm in love as well. So nice.

VelvetSpoon · 01/06/2013 00:54

I have a few things in my wardrobe from River Island and have just turned 41. There's a couple of the Rihanna items I'd buy if I wasnt quite so fat atm Envy

alltoomuchrightnow · 01/06/2013 01:05

i don't know how to link ! Blush the maxi dress is black, pinafore style, i think it's £60

the jacket has dye effect, maybe a little too light for me though (in colour).it's very All Saints style, which i wear a lot of as really suits me...possibly i'm too old for AS but i won't stop wearing that, all the long flowy stuff they do is perfect for my chubby, norky but tall frame. I tried on the jacket today and it looked fine but i kept telling myself...I'm 42! arghh. I've not had this before, the age thang I mean. I'm a young 42. People usually think i'm under 35.

I've looked at her "collection" and I wouldn't use it to mop the floor with, well I might but only if the pound shop had run out of J-Cloths!

No one should be wearing it.

alltoomuchrightnow · 01/06/2013 01:56

some of it's vile but some of it's really nice IMHO Wink

freerangeeggs · 01/06/2013 02:34

You're never too old for anything, that's nonsense. Buy it and enjoy it.

I like a few things from that collection. I really regret not buying a maxi skirt with a zip and a deep split up the side. I would have looked hot in it IMHO.

Allthingspretty · 01/06/2013 06:20

Buy itid you like it

AKissIsNotAContract · 01/06/2013 06:27

is this the dress?

AKissIsNotAContract · 01/06/2013 06:30

and this the jacket?

I don't like either but I don't think you are too old for them.

alltoomuchrightnow · 01/06/2013 12:44

yes and yes, AKiss. They are definitely my sort of style so no one would go 'what ARE you wearing?'

LadyBeagleEyes · 01/06/2013 12:53

The dress is lovely and you're certainly not too old for it.
I'm not keen on the jacket, but again I think any age could wear it.

Ujjayi · 01/06/2013 13:28

I'm the same age as you OP and I would wear them both (if they were my style). I would think about a black slip beneath the dress though as it looks quite sheer.

CajaDeLaMemoria · 01/06/2013 13:35

Have you tried the dress on?

It seems to vary hugely in quality piece to piece. Some seem great, some rip very easily or the top breaks.

AmberNectarine · 01/06/2013 13:38

I'm 28 and I'm too old for a see through maxi dress!

LadyBeagleEyes · 01/06/2013 15:25

Sure you are Amber, it's time for twinsets and pearls and nice comfy shoes at your ripe old age Wink.

freerangeeggs · 01/06/2013 18:50

28 is too old for nothing ffs!! I'm 29 and I genuinely cannot believe that I've got to an age now where people think they're 'too old' for certain clothes. THAT makes me feel old - people my own age who keep talking about how old they are. I'm not ready for Per Una yet, I'm afraid.

Bring on the sequin disco pants I say

Rage, rage against the dying of the light etc

AmberNectarine · 01/06/2013 18:53

I said that Tongue in cheek. What I really meant was: I'm too fat for a see through dress!

SirChenjin · 01/06/2013 19:00

Oh dear god - that is hideous! If Rihanna hadn't put her name to that 'collection' it wouldn't have made it to the rail. The mere fact that it does have her name associated with it would put me off though...

Having said that, I don't think you are ever too old for anything (with the exception of anything Disney) - it's just what you wear with it and how your wear it that counts.

I'm nearer 50 and I have the red see through blouse! I can't stand a rihanna but my daughter was looking online at the clothes and we bought a few of the tie dye bits for her and I saw the blouse and thought I could wear that! It's nice, not brilliant quality and I wear it with a nude cami over my bra as I don't think anyone wants to see my bra at my age!

alltoomuchrightnow · 01/06/2013 21:11

it's not see thru! but it's like dungaree style so would need a top underneath anyway. I couldn't try on as my size wasn't there today. I did buy the jacket! I have kept the tag on and receipt and will mull it over for a few days. I encountered the most honest sales assistant ever! I asked for her opinion (I was wearing it, before purchase) and she said she hated it and that it wasn't worth the money! I said, do you mean you hate it on me, or just hate it? She said, just hates it !

The jacket is baggy/ quite oversized and 'deconstructed'. Much like a lot of the All Saints clobber I wear. I'm 5ft 9 and it does suit me. If i was petite it would totally swamp me. It's a 16 and it's still baggy even with my norks It's the kind of style i can carry off and suits me...but i wouldn't team it with baggy bottom half...got to be skinny jeans, leggings etc... I will try it with a few items and muse on it..
