Nude tights - a big no or ok?

I am going to a smart garden-party type event on Thursday. The forecast is cool and damp. The only suitable outfit I own involves a knee length dress which I'm planning to wear with peep-toe wedges, as we will be on grass.

I know I'm going to freeze, and have not got round to fake tanning my legs, so am contemplating a pair of nude tights - expensive M&S Dare to Bare ones. They look ok but admittedly not the same as bare legs. Am I committing style heresy? Please tell me tights are ok in these dire circumstances - I'm dreading the day already.

I went to a garden party at the weekend. It was too cold for bare legs. Got nude or barely there type tights from JL. Were fine.

I know you've already bought tights but did u look at the toeless m&s tights? Always a winner for me.

I don't get the resistance to hosiery. It feels comfortable and makes your legs look great.

I think it has to actually be warm/hot and sunny for bare legs to look ok. Nothing wrong with nude tights IMHO as long as they are not too dark or baggy/wrinkly. Also prevents chaffing!

janmoonmoo, I agree, the sleek comfort of tights on ones thighs is very reassuring.

At functions you so often see women shivering in bare legs which have gone blotchy with the cold, whilst women in hose still look sleek and warm.

As long as they are toeless. Nothing worse than a seamed toe sticking out of a sandal IMO.

I often wear nude fishnets in summer (I get them from Accessorize). Bizarrely they look like bare skin from a distance. A retired model I met at a wedding gave me the tip - she said a lot of models wear them to make their legs look smooth as they don't show up in photos (not sure how that works!)

They're just as warm as normal tights and I normally get a couple of wears at least out of them.

Agree with Minesa: nude fishnets are a great summer standby. Good quality nude tights will be as smart but warmer so I would go with the latter. Also tights give a smoother waist/hip line and help finishing the look.

i always wear nude fishnets - i love them. i wouldn't wear peep toe with any nude tights tho, even toeless ones. either bare legs and open shoes or a full shoe for me.
