Hiya - as it says in the title really.

Been invited to a wedding all day and evening, its in July. I am a size 18-20 and am really struggling to find an outfit.

I hate my legs so would generally like to have them covered up and would need to be able to wear a cardigan or shrug type thing to cover arms too....I hate shopping, it makes me miserable!

Dont really want to spend a fortune - £100 very maximum.

Help me wise MNetters!

simplybe is pretty good. order a few outfits pick the one you want n send the others back, no shopping!

slug · 23/05/2013 15:17

These go up to a 28

GiveMummyTheWhizzer · 23/05/2013 15:21

I did have a look at simply-be but it was a all a bit boring - am only 26 and whilst I want something sophisticated, I also don't want it to be drab or boring....

I will have another look though.

Full length
Another full length dress only goes up to 18 though
Love the colour

JennySense · 23/05/2013 15:23

Boden?

juneybean · 23/05/2013 15:34

I'm a similar size and age and I usually use monsoon for wedding outfits.

GiveMummyTheWhizzer · 23/05/2013 15:38

I like that first one slug.

Just going to have a look at Boden now.

Have you had a look at Lady vintage London?-they do a whole range of dresses that go up to a size 24. The swing dresses are lovely but I also have 1 of the wiggle dresses and it is very flattering-am a size 16 so not a skinny Minnie either!

The swing dresses have short sleeves but you could easily pair one of the lovely Hepburn dresses with a nice shrug.

have a look at Pepperberry and also have a search on Ebay for new (or worn once!)...I usually start with a search for Planet/Phase Eight and see what other recommended links you get at the top.

Kaffiene · 23/05/2013 16:38

Monsoon or have your tried ASOS curve? Sorry on phone so no links. I just got a lovely maxi dress for a wedding from there.

PiHigh · 23/05/2013 16:48

I was just coming on to recommend Lady V too.

milk · 23/05/2013 16:51

I'm go with smart black trousers, with a super pretty top :)

Fillyjonk75 · 23/05/2013 18:22

How about something like this tunic dress, with leggings or other black trousers?

tunic dress

Reastie · 23/05/2013 18:24

I thought about Boden too. Yes to Monsoon too, or Debenhams? Debenhams stores can be a bit iffy with size range in their store but website has really good range.

Fillyjonk75 · 23/05/2013 18:30

Deco Maxi dress

Could be teamed with a cream or black jacket

Ashoething · 23/05/2013 18:43

You cant wear leggings to a weddingShock and the op is a size 18-not a 38! That tunic top would make her look waaaaaaaaaay bigger than she is. No floaty tunics please op-its easy to get into the trap of thinking they hide the flab but they really don't.

Go for something structured, with a waist that highlights your good points-whether its boobs, arms or legs.

Fillyjonk75 · 23/05/2013 18:54

Well, I thought coming from Evans, as it's only made in larger sizes it would be more likely to be flattering. And it's more of a dress than a top. We don't know what the OP's shape is or height, one size 18 is not the same as another. Of course you can wear leggings to a wedding, what century did you post that from? Especially as the OP is only 26 years old, she doesn't want to cover up in a long line Jaeger suit. I know the OP doesn't want to show her legs but leggings and a dress sometimes take the attention away from the shape of your legs, and I also said "or trousers".

I've seen plenty of larger ladies wearing things like that and looking lovely. Or indeed a maxi dress which was the other thing I posted.

Fillyjonk75 · 23/05/2013 18:55

And the tunic has a tailored waist, BTW, which is rather why I chose it and not a shift.

joanofarchitrave · 23/05/2013 18:57

How tall are you?

Just asking because I am an 18/20 with the opposite body shape (my legs are OK but the rest of me is like an egg) and like an idiot I bought a lovely maxidress off ebay that hides my legs and shows off the rest of me Confused. Happy to pm you a picture if you're interested, you can have it for postage and maybe a donation to something [vague].

Thing is though that it is very very long - I'm 5'9" and I would have needed serious heels to wear it (I don't do heels).

GiveMummyTheWhizzer · 24/05/2013 08:54

Thanks all, some great suggestions.

Joanofarchitrave - I have PM'd you! Grin

Avoid Evans at all costs - no idea why one poster thinks they're 'more likely to be flattering' but they are dire. Ditto Simply Be. Cheap fabrics don't flatter bigger bodies.

Also avoid boring black trousers - and definitely leggings - for a wedding.

At your size, you should have a pretty good choice from retailers who aren't the dreaded 'plus-size specialists'. Monsoon, Boden, Phase Eight all good places to look.

Good luck.
