Can a short dumpy size 12 pull off Baukjen dresses?

I've had a 25% off offer through the door and the dresses look lovely but can I pull them off or would they just highlight every lump and bump? It's for a wedding and I'm part of wedding party so can't really hide myself away and drink wine if I feel self conscious! I obviously plan on spanxing myself up to the ceiling. Thoughts would be appreciated (as I'm too tight to pay for returns!!)...

Btw, I'm 5'2, just shy of 10st, have boobs and waist but thighs and mum-tum.

They look great. But I am no fashionista.

Circaea · 17/05/2013 11:27

It depends what you'll feel comfortable in. They're lovely dresses, but the combination of jersey and that kind of draping is quite unforgiving...

FruitOwl · 17/05/2013 11:31

The second one with the belt is really lovely and looks like it will be more flattering on.

Geordieminx · 17/05/2013 11:36

I love the first one and I think at 10st you would look great in it.

It's very Vivienne Westwood anglomania-esque.

I am actually cursing you though as I got a catalogue through the door but I haven't looked at it...

MrsCampbellBlack · 17/05/2013 11:45

I'm 5 foot and they don't work on me at all - too much material. I think they're cut for taller women.

suntodayplease · 17/05/2013 12:44

I'd agree with MrsCB, the dresses are usually quite long, I'm 5ft 8 and I find them a perfect length so unless you wanted it to fit slightly longer than on the model you might want to look elsewhere?

Wishiwasanheiress · 17/05/2013 12:46

I found the material skimmed rather than clung and drape/wrinkle in a well cut tailored fashion rather than cheap way iykwim. I'd say go for it.

5madthings · 17/05/2013 12:50

I think they look nice but you would gave to try them in, if they are too long it will look awful, they are lovely tho :)

AmberNectarine · 17/05/2013 12:52

No to first one if you have boobs. I wore it to a wedding and spent the whole time trying to cover my modesty.

PlumBear · 17/05/2013 12:53

I'm 5ft and a curvy size 8 to 10 - ordered a wrap dress, and it did nothing for me. Definitely cut for taller, willowy women Envy

Bunbaker · 17/05/2013 12:54

I think a skater style dress would be far more flattering.

Chandon · 17/05/2013 12:59

I am a curvy shaped 12- 14, bit like you but taller.

I ordered those dresses to try on and on me they did not look frumy at all, the opposite really, they looked super sexy bordering the indecent ( as it made my waist- hip area look vavavoom) and I sent them back, as it looked like I was trying too hard ( dh said they were mega sexy, but that just isn't my look).

So frumpy, fear not. More sex bomb, but you need the attitude to with that!

Thanks for that everyone, I'll give them all a whirl as I've just looked at the details of the code to share and it includes free delivery and returns - woohoo! Am about to put an awful lot of money on my credit card, with free d&r it would be rude not to! WELCOME0205 valid until 1st Aug 13 on spend of £49 or more. So that would be a belt then.

I like the 2nd one but you would need heels. Not keen on those drapey ones a bit loose women and probably not that flattering

5madthings · 17/05/2013 16:53

Let ,me know what they are alike you mist be similar size to me, I am 5 2, just under 10 stone, 30inch waist but curvy hips and boobs ie e cup boobs, sometimes those styles can look nice as long as theynarent too long :)

Pufflemum · 17/05/2013 17:03

Damn, you have just cost me £217 ( but saved me £49).......

cornypedicure · 17/05/2013 17:07

I love the second one.

Llareggub · 17/05/2013 17:18

I have both of those and I LOVE them. Yes they can be long but they can be ruched up or down so can look very different. They are also very flattering but I would agree that can border on indecent. I feel very va va voom in the first dress.

The second one on the link I have in khaki and I love it, but need to lose a few pounds off my middle first as it isn't the most forgiving. It feels a bit more casual than the first dress.

I have the Baukjen wrap in raspberry and it is amazing.

Llareggub · 17/05/2013 17:18

I hate the way their models pose though.

JazzDalek · 17/05/2013 17:27

I love the first one! Really want it now, damn you Grin

Thank you for linking to those, though, they led me to the sale section and I found what might be the perfect pair of jeans for me, now ordered!

topsi · 17/05/2013 18:03

I have the first one. It is the kind of dress that you need to feel mega confident in to wear it. It looks very sexy and the colour are often very bright. I wore to a wedding and looking back it probably wasn't the most suitable thing to wear!

Jambonfrites · 17/05/2013 20:57

I bought a baukjen jersey dress for the first time this week. I'm normally a size 8 and pretty slim. I heard the sizes were small so I ordered a 10. Even so, it looks truly horrendous - clinging to and highlighting every lump and bump. I'm sending back tomorrow. Not same style dress as the ones you've chosen though. Hope they work out better for you than mine did for me!

TooMuchRain · 17/05/2013 22:14

I really like the belted one from the front but it looks quite tight from behind - if anyone has it, would you say it is work suitable? (sorry for going off topic a bit OP!)

Llareggub · 17/05/2013 22:17

I don't think it is work suitable at all.
