New baby- makeup crisis!

Hi I have a 4 week old baby and I need to get a new foundation. My current one (Bourjois healthy mix serum foundation) is now not the right colour- due to sleep deprivation obviously I am even paler than normal!

I thought that a foundation that has a clicky brush would also speed me up. But the only one I found with the brush is YSL touche eclat foundation.

Is it any good? (ysl lady said colour 1 for me) as it is £32. Never spent this much on foundation.
Plus I'm broke as zero income.
But want to look less shit!

I have bought the new Olay Regenerist CC cream in lightest & used it once. It seemed ok, but I think I need a bit more coverage.

Your advice please!

New baby here as well :-) I find the ysl brush foundation a tad greasy but I have oily combination skin, what about a bb cream you can slather on quickly ,I use Laura mercier cream silk foundation with a mac stippling brush but rimmel wake me up foundation is also surprisingly good.

I love the YSL clicky foundation and it lasts ages. I use it if I'm going out or if I need a bit more coverage. Use Garnier BB cream and a bit of
Lily Lolo mineral powder the rest of the time.

Do you have a good blusher? I found that made the biggest difference to my sleep deprived skin. I'd never worn pink/peach blush before but swear by it now to reduce that living dead look I rock these days.

I'm with coffee on this, no7 matchy thingy (£12.50 and has lasted such a long time) I've got the instant radiance one and do think it helps. That's the one they suggested when I said I wanted to look like I'd had 8 hours sleep when that's never gonna happen ever ever ever again sob

On really bad days I slap some bb cream on first. I have 2 children under 3 but always find time to put my face on. Some days it is just moisturiser, foundation and mascara but mostly liquid eyeliner as well (very thin line, thankful have a steady hand even with a 6 month old on my knee)

My whole routine takes less than 2 mins, is sometimes done in stages but definitely means I feel better.

Good idea about the blusher, I will give that a go.

The ysl one is v expensive, I guess I need confidence that it is great before I buy it!

Just looked up boots- there is a new Bourjois foundation that has a sponge applicator. But I never use a sponge, so it might be more fiddly than the brush.

I need extreme speed, as I don't like to leave minimilk to cry!

I'm really curious about how you apply foundation that it takes so long to cause concern? I would hazard a guess that it's less time than typing a post on here or is that just me? I'm going to time myself this morning.

I pump some on to my fingertips, spread it over the 2 hands and rub said hands on my face (like someone would wash their face with soap).

I know beauty experts would baulk at this application but it works for me.

That's what I do namechangea - I know I'm supposed to use a sponge, I'm not sure why, I squirt foundation onto my fingers and blend it in that way, then if it's all gone a bit wrong I use a tissue... Not a very scientific approach but people don't point and laugh so it must be relatively ok :S

Agree on the blusher- never used to use but now with a toddler I feel it helps! Also bronzer underneath (just a light sweep across cheeks, nose, forehead) gives a nice glow. If stuck for cash I can't recommend MUA bronzer and blusher enough. Can buy in superdrug or online and they are a pound or two each. Really good quality for the money especially if you are experimenting! (Bronzer shade 1 and blusher shade 2 are good)

Just want to recommend Liz Earle skin tint, not a foundation more of a treatment/tinted moisturiser. It was my saviour with my newborn, now 3.5 months!Smile

Can you get a sample of the YSL one ? I used it a few years back when my skin wasn't so greasy and to be honest I ended up taking the brush off the end of it (quite easy, it pops off) and using a sponge or my own make up brush which I preferred.

The YSL assistant may give you come chat about how you won't get a true reflection of the foundation if you don't use the brush with it but explain that you just want to try it for the colour first before you invest. £32 is bloody ridiculous for a foundation, isn't it....I'd want to walk out the door looking like a bloody supermodel for that money....

Foundation applied with a brush. Face finity by max factor is great as it stays put and you won't have to worry about touching it up throughout the day.

Careful with bronzed as it can look orange on very fair skin.

I use this as it has no hint of orange, isn't shimmery as it says it is and gives me a very natural look

Oh and it's as cheap as chips and doesnt disintegrate into a powdery mess even if you drop it!

I had the YSL one, I liked the clicky brush but found the foundation too greasy, I'm currently using Bobbi Brown BB cream applied with a which is lovely, I went for a makeover at Bobbi Brown when I was 20 weeks thinking that I needed to streamline my makeup for when the baby comes and she pared it right down for me.

...but I'm very tempted by the idea of the Liz Earle Skin Tint which looks like it might be even quicker to apply (make up junkie!)

I agree - never wore blusher in my pre-children days but feel really grey without it now - just a dab of Benefits Benetint (the lip and cheek stain) makes me feel better. My make up routine can be done at traffic lights (not advised obviously) - BB cream (washing face method), benetint, bronzer if its been a bad night, mascara and lip gloss.

Agree with mewkins - try the MUA range - I have given it a whirl after reading so many positive comments on here. Now have the benetint copy (this is the Superdrug brand rather than MUA) but have the MUA bronzer which is great and a couple of the lip gloss'.

I also agree with the boots intelligent foundation (very quick rub in with fingers works for me) but its the blusher that really lifts my whole face. Benetint by Benefit is fab - expensive but lasts for absolutely ages (as long as you don't drop the glass bottle Hmm). I use it every day and it lasts me about 2 years! That and a bit of mascara and a quick brush over with mineral veil powder by Bare Essentials and my face is literally transformed - and only takes me about 2mins.

I also have a newborn so not looking too hot. A friend came to visit and one day and very sympathetically remarked how tired I looked - only difference between that and any other time she sees me was I didn't have any makeup on Smile

Yes I also timed my makeup & hair routine when I was pregnant & got it down to 3mins.
But I can't leave minimilk yelling for cuddles for 3mins!

So I thought that if I minimised to super fast foundation & swipe of blush/shimmer & mascara that would do.

Maybe I am stressing too much? Wink

Another reccomendation for benetint from Benefit - I use cha-cha tint which is a more peachy colour. It is a bit pricey but lasts forever and is still the only thing that makes me look alive, rather than grey and haggard. My make up routine for work is bb cream (l'oreal), benetint and shadow/liner/mascara. For days at home i just use benetint and mascara. Quick and easy and makes you look alive!

I didn't get on with the touché éclat foundation. Wasted money on it and found it a weird combination of chalky and greasy. Can I suggest Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser. It has much more pigment than other tinted moisturisers, so has foundation like coverage. I used to wear foundation every day until I bought it and now only use foundation for serious going out.

Also, lots of exfoliation worked for me post baby. I go for dermabrasion, but if you are younger I think normal but regular exfoliation brightens a lot.

I got the ysl touche eclat foundation a few months ago and like it, I don't use loads - just put it where I need it. It was the first 'proper' foundation I had used in years as had previously used nothing/bb cream. I can see I will buy it again when I run out. Also I use blusher every day otherwise I look ill!
