Eyeliner pencil smudging?

I use a variety of eyeliner pencils on my eyes and a few colours. Some pencils (Bourjois etc) are lovely and the line is very soft. Others are a lovely colour, but the line is quite defined.

I therefore smudge the line using a cotton bus to make it look softer and less wobbly.

But I find that it's a bit hit or miss, and I end up removing bits completely and having to touch it up and then try to smudge and touch it up - repeat ad nauseum.

Is there a wonderful eyeliner smudging product that I don't know about?

I use the crayon style retractable pencils from Avon which are nice and soft and allow some smudging if you want to soften the effect further. I then set it with loose powder on a brush.
