Genuine long lasting foundation that's quick and easy to apply?

Can anyone recommend a really good foundation that does last at least 12 hours? I've seen lots of mentions of Revlon's Colourstay but I'd prefer something I can just slap on very quickly, and all the reviews of Colourstay I've seen suggest you have to be quite careful how you apply it as it dries quickly.

I can wear Bare Minerals if the weather is cold. As soon as it gets hot, or if I'm at the gym, it reacts badly with my skin and I come out in an itchy red rash.

If I want long lasting I go for Doublewear

I like Inika for mineral makeup. It's all natural, isn't tested on animals, and doesn't make my sensitive skin red like bare minerals does. However, I think all mineral foundation is better for normal, oily or combination skin because it can make dry skin look dehydrated and can be aging. It goes on very quickly, though.

I really like Laura Mercier compact tinted moisturiser as it lasts well, but it's fairly expensive for the amount you get in the package. It goes on quickly and easily, too. You apply it with the sponge it comes with.

Surely Double wear is only orangey if you have the wrong shade? I find the Neutral shades fine, not orangey at all, Although the Warm shades are.

Double Wear is fantastic, but only if applied well. It takes a bit of trial and error, or it can look caked on and ageing.

I don't find it applies well with a brush - even a real techniques one. And I only use half the amount of double wear than I do other foundations. I small pea sized amount blended in with my fingers, over a primer - I like MAC spf 50. It's really quick once you know what you're doing.

Used sparingly, over well moisturised or primed skin, it looks very natural, and it really is the longest lasting foundation, with best oil control that I've used, and I've used a LOT of foundations. I top it with MAC mineralise skinfinish natural powder.

Incidentally, if you dislike the fact it doesn't come with a pump, the MAC pumps that cost about £3.00 fit the bottles.

I remember the DW as being the worst foundation I had tried. A friend wore it and it looked great on her, but she a different colouring and oily skin. I don't think it is suitable for dry skin really, and even the lightest shade was too yellow and dark on me, very unflattering. Bare Escentuals was also a mistake, bloody expensive one. It made me look flawless yes but too flawless almost, like a painted lady, and left my skin feeling papery. And did settle in fine lines after a time, and although the coverage lasted all day it went orange after a while (apparently it oxidises on the skin). Again I think it is not one for those with dry skin, or sensitive, it itched like crazy. Ad personally I found the application a pain in the arse,

I am currently using Lancôme tent visionnaire, which is very handy as it comes with a pot of concealer as well. But again dewy but not particularly long lasting. I just touch it up at lunchtime if necessary.

I'm also a new convert to Estee Lauder Doublewear. I used to use Lily lolo foundation but my skin has changed due to peri-menopause and it just made me look ill. I have had testers of YSL, Lancome, Clinique liquid foundations and non quite did everything I needed. The doublewear is gorgeous. Long lasting, easy to apply, doesn't feel tacky/greasy, gives a gorgeous glowy look.

Combined with an Amazon cheapo version of the Dermaflannel, which was also recommended on here, my skin hasn't looked as lovely for years. I asked DP if he noticed my skin looking nicer this morning and he said it looks lovely :)

getorf!! THANK THE LORD!! Everyone else raves about BM and I had the exact same experience as you. I wanted to claw my skin off. I then took it back and they told me to "lay it down flat on the skin" like a concealer.. I still looked like a burns victim and eventually gave up. I love their eyeshadows and blush colours though.

Clara - did they eventually change it for you though ? Sure them telling you to "lay it don flat on the skin" completely contradicts the "tap,swirl,buff" mantra they have at the counters ? I looked like Magdalena from Something About Mary after my makeover with BM...

I am a massive Estee Lauder fan, and use loads of their make up and skincare. I have doen for 15+ years. But Doublewear and even Doublewear Light are awful on me. I have dry skin, and I don't think it suits dry skin at all. I couldn't get it to move, despite applying just a little and applying it with a brush. I found it really ageing too. However, despite having fair but warm skin, I didn't find it organgey.

I don't have particularly dry skin, more oily I think, so I'll give DW a bash. I did put my cheap Maybelline Photo Flawless on this morning with primer, which I never think to do unless I am wearing a powder-style foundation, and it feels quite fixed. Though the primer I had to hand was pretty shite - No.7 Shine Free Primer - is that generally a bad one? My Benefit one feels so much nicer.

I do ideally want something that's not too expensive overall. The Benefit primer and powder comes to about £45-£50 for both, so I think I am looking for the holy grail of a £25 foundation that stays on its own, or a £30-total primer/foundation that works.

The Urban Decay all day/night 16 hour make up setting spray is supposed to eb amazing. A friend had it recommended to her for her wedding day.

I think you would get on well with Doublewear if you have slightly oily skin. Doublewear Light is easier to spread and therefore quicker to apply, though. I'm sure you could get a tester from one of the EL counters.

Rimmel 25h is good, wore it for my daughters communion and it was still perfect after the whole day with no touch ups despite me getting rained on.

I put on Lily Lolo powder mineral foundation this morning and it took about a minute for both foundation and top coat. It doesn't take me much longer than usual finishing powder.
I just have to be careful with it below my eyes as it can accentuate fine lines there.

I like the one from the newish Superdrug range, it's called something like 16 hr wear or similar.

Just shove it on in a minute or so, it lasts all day and isn't drying or too oily.

DW made me look like a corpse.

BE is too fiddly to put on in a rush. Too much buffing, swirling and tapping nonsense.

At the moment I am using the colour match thing at Boots no 7.

I can't believe I said Maybelline 25hr fdtn upthread, there is no such thing. I meant the Rimmel 25hr wear which a few others have mentioned.

ELDW and DWL palest shades are too yellowish for many anglo-saxon women. Sometimes the shades look OK in the shop but EL's old fashioned formulations oxidise on many people and the makeup turns orange over a number of hours. There really are better formulations around these days. I particularly dislike the 'hard faced' look that the EL fdtns give and the aging effect of the makeup sinking into pores, highlighting the faintest lines, and generally making me look like I've got really bad jetlag.

I think this aging effect has been avoided by the newer formulations, hence mega popularity of YSL Touche Eclat et al.

To be fair, the EL counter staff are terrific and very generous with samples so it's possible to try out the EL fdtns for a week or so, unlike the cheaper brands.

Definitely get samples. I was given enough DW to last a week. I only need a little bit. I tried applying it with a real techniques brush but it didn't go on well (on my nose for some reason?!). I use my fingers now. I have quite greasy skin and it works very well for me. I have tried loads of samples and what suits one person won't suit another so to save yourself making expensive mistakes I'd really do that. Lancome, YSL and Clinique all seemed totally fine about dolloping some in a little jar or phial.

I've used Clinique for years and years, then tried a free sample of Max Factor Facefinity All Day Flawless (stupid name). It's really good, stays on all day. Allegedly has a primer and concealer in one.

I also dont use much and I use it on top of moisturiser otherwise I cant blend it but it is so natural looking and feels light on my skin

I've got half a bottle of DW Pale Almond if anyone wants it. I've tried to get on with it but it's no good on my very dry skin. PM me and I'll send it.

Well on the basis of this thread I popped into Boots today and helped myself to a large sample of the 25hr Rimmel Foundation...will report back tomorrow after a trial run...
