Comfortable work shoes <sobs>

I'm not happy. I've had a great day at work but I have just hobbled onto the train with very sore feet. It might be time to accept I can't schlep round cities in killer heels anymore.

Can anyone please recommend some comfortable shoes to go with suits and smart dresses? The bastards that gave me blisters today were from LK Bennett but are pre DC.

I think my feet are a bit wider across the toes now and this is causing problems??

Please..... I'm not ready for M&S Footglove yet so not too fugly but just a bit more comfortable.

I love Hushpuppies shoes. They aren't exactly high fashion but I find them really comfy even the ones with heels. They are built quite widely too (I have wide feet) so might fit you better.

Hush puppies are good, I have been to work oday in3.5 inch bright red shoes from them and am fresh as a Daisy.

Hotter are also amazing but you have to be pretty selective IMHO about the styles and colours!

I wear these for work and they are well comfy.

I work in a city too and travel by train. I just keep my heels at work and travel to and from work in either flat boots or pumps depending on weather.

Mmm. Are the pre-DC shoes aren't just uncomfortable because they're too small? An awful lot of women go up at least 1/2 a shoe size after pregnancy.

Clarks have some good ones. I have my first ever comfy and smart pair of shoes - I think the key is to go for chunky heels. That way even if they're high I can walk fast when I am late for school pick-up (without falling over!).

I travel about a lot happygirlnow otherwise I'd do that.

I did wonder that mrslettuce but I've tried half a size bigger and they are definitely too big so I'm convinced they've got wider.... Almost as though the bones have spread out if that is possible?

Been having a look at Hush Puppies and Clarks and will go and try some this weekend. I'm quite taken with these:

I'm a reluctant wearer of heels for work. I'd also vote for Hush Puppies Philippa and the related styles. As a bonus they have cheerful flowery linings and a flower on the sole . I have a pair now and I can see I will just keep replacing them with the same.

I have some quite similar shoes to the clarks ones - Chorus Jazz I just wore them the once so far, for an all day wedding and can confirm they are really comfortable. The little platform makes a real difference plus a padded sole.

Also don't underestimate the usefulness of Party Feet insoles

I bought the most amazingly comfy pair of heels from Clarks - I can't link, but they are called Ancient Myth.

They are kitten heels, and made of such soft suede that I can wear them all day on bare feet (and I really suffer, having wide feet and bunions). Lovely for work, and look just as good with skinny jeans.

I'm amazed at the hush puppy styles. My mum loved hush puppies. I remember them being ghastly brown suede things with either laces or elasticated. Didn't realise they had changed!

I'm sad. I love the ballet shoe type crocs. Soooo comfy!

I like Jones shoes for work. Here's the thing, though - you need flats or trainers or something comfy for commuting or other walking about. On no account try to do that stuff in heels! Keep the nice shoes in your desk drawer to slip into when you get to work. A refinement on the theme is to have different height heels in the drawer - low ones for pottering about the office and more glam ones for special meetings, events etc!

I suggest Fitflop ballerinas which are fabulously comfy and have a substantial sole (which adds a little height). Perfect if you have to walk a lot. Sound like a stuck record, don't I? But they really are great.

I couldn't do flats..... Work is really formal so they wouldn't look right with suits and plain dresses which is all I wear. I do only do 3 days though so can wear what I like most of the time.

I see they see Gabor in John Lewis so will check them out.

As for Marks I have tried shoes there before and they always seems a strange size. 4 miles too big but 3 stupidly tight.

How about these?

I wear very slim-built pointy toe wedges and block-heels when I have to wear heels and stand a lot.

Lots of women change shoe size after pregnancy. The hormones soften up our pelvic ring (the pubic joint softens up) and it can also change your shape everywhere. I am at my pre-preg weight but my pelvic shape has changed permanently (=one dress size up) and I think my feet have also gained 1/2 size.

M & S do half sizes and have a really wide range. I would suggest you keep an open mind about them.

My eyes are watering at the height of some of the "comfortable" shoes on this thread though.

Anyone mentioned Camper yet? They are very comfortable and they do a stylish low/mid heel - soles are made of rubber so super comfortable for walking - I love these. The other things I have found are good a proper dance shoes - I bought beautiful suede low heel ballroom dancer shoes from here www.werner-kern.com/ and I love them
