I have the same with the iron, so have a little radio on the same plug.
When I switch it on, radio and iron come on, same when I turn them off.
radio playing - iron's still on.

i have an electricity energy monitor and make sure its only on 1p an hour before i leave the house which basically means they or anything else is off.

ToastedTeacakes · 09/05/2013 18:20

terror of my cat sticking his nose on it.

seeker · 09/05/2013 18:22

Nearly setting fire to a copy of Romeo and Juliet concentrates the mind a bit - yes, that's you I'm talking about, dd!

MagicBaguette · 09/05/2013 18:23

Mine beep angrily at me if I forget Grin

PastaBeeandCheese · 09/05/2013 18:24

Mine bleep too but with my old pair I had a heat proof mat just in case.

Ledkr · 09/05/2013 18:24

Are you meant to unplug them? I just turn then off on the switch.

SPsCliffingAllOverMN · 09/05/2013 18:26

I just switch them off by the switch on them. They turn off after half hour anyway

Drives me insane! Half way to work one day I had GHD paranoia, raced home, legged it into he bedroom bent down, unplugged them, stood up banged head on Victorian fire place, saw stars and ended up going into work with a huge egg on my head! Sad

The switch has broken on mine now & so they don't turn off. The only way is to unplug and this works! Don't seem to forget.

LadyAlex · 09/05/2013 19:04

i say out load to myself 'ladyalex you have turned off and unplugged your straightners'
geeky i know but it seems to stick then that ive done it and i dont panic on the way to work!

HappyGirlNow · 09/05/2013 19:12

I take a picture with my phone after I've unplugged them. Then that evening I delete it.
Prior to this I used to leave the house, pull over in a lay by and ring DH to get him to check.

LadyAlex · 09/05/2013 19:29

hubbi thinks im a bit waffy if he hears me! Clearly im not alone in my waffiness!

Ledkr · 09/05/2013 19:30

Please tell me why they have to be unplugged.

ilikesweetpeas · 09/05/2013 19:31

Thought it was just me that had this paranoia half way to work, obviously not!

DorisShutt · 09/05/2013 19:32

I use a time clock for things that I'm paranoid about. Blush one of the old fashioned push down the little bit of plastic clock variety.

For example, if I straighten my hair, I set it so that it will switch off about 30 mins later.

Then if I forget, it's no big hassle.

YoniOno · 09/05/2013 19:38

The older ones don't turn themselves off. I've come home after work to find I've left them switched on Blush

I've weaned myself off them anyway due to the faff of using them around a toddler - just use good products and get good at blow-drying. Much better for your hair.

Ledkr · 09/05/2013 20:06

Oh I give up

AnyFucker · 09/05/2013 20:08

I am reminded when I come home to a burned out house

StrawberryMojito · 09/05/2013 20:11

I have to announce things out loud to myself too to if I want to remember ..."I have unplugged the iron", "I have shut the bathroom window". I promise I am completely normal in all other ways.

LaundryLegoLunch · 09/05/2013 20:32

Another time clock user. I do mostly unplug anyway but it's a good back up.

Nehru · 09/05/2013 20:48

Mine are obv ancient
