I bought a maxi dress that doesn't make me look dumpy!

Have always assumed that I would look dumpy in a maxi dress ( am 5'4 and a size 12-14). Tried on a dress in the white company today and I look swishy and fab in it! And it was reduced :)

Now come on, you know the rules, link please Smile

Yay yay. I bet it's an impractical colour though.

DH hates maxi dresses so I don't get to wear them much, sadly.

shoppingbagsundereyes · 08/05/2013 20:23

Is dark charcoal grey. Can't do links on iPad. Will ask dh when he gets back from beer run. I think the reason it's so good is the fabric is really heavy so drapes from my boobs well. Other dresses tend to make my belly look bigger than my boobs ( which is nearly is).

Oh that looks lovely! Enjoy wearing it.

Oreocrumbs · 08/05/2013 21:26

Here. I've just bought one in the blue.

Thanks for the recommendation!

Bowlersarm · 08/05/2013 21:30

It does look lovely. Does the fact it's viscose make it clingy? Ie does it hang well?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/05/2013 22:13

Are you norky? I've got a WC one from about three years ago, which is lovely - but the last one I tried in there had a boobage section about half as large as my boobs required!

Sh1ney · 08/05/2013 22:37

What size did you get?

I'm an 8-10 so do I need the S? I'm also 5 ft 4 ... Not too long ?

shoppingbagsundereyes · 09/05/2013 13:27

Sorry forgot to come back to this last night. No am fairly small of nork. The fabric was drapey rather than clingy. I have quite pokey out thighs and they don't show. It just hangs from my boobs straight down.
I am 5'4 and it is very long, 1 inch longer and I wouldn't have been able to buy it. It will sort of sit on the tops of my flip flops I think. Bonus is no need to shave legs :)

Sorry sh1ney, I bought a medium so you will need a small.

Shiny - you might even need an extra small. I'm a 12 but usually need a small in WC (except for maxi dresses with no nork space!).

PoppyWearer · 09/05/2013 18:49

Thanks OP, am 5ft34 and also size 12/14 and have been on a quest for such a dress!

Just ordered the blue.

Thanks
PoppyWearer · 11/05/2013 10:12

Mine has arrived and I like. ThanksThanks OP.

It's a very similar style to a Boden maternity dress I had and loved, so you get bonus points for that, as I have been looking for one in that style.

Oh, and just to add another tip before I leave!

I bought the Monsoon "Tiana" maxi-skirt for £39 and it is on the long side for me (5ft 3). Although I can just about wear it as a a skirt.

But....if I hoick it up around my boobs, it makes a great strapless dress. Will make a fab pool/beach cover up with a bikini, or a dress if I pop a cardi over it.
