The Bag Dilemma

After recent issue with a leather saddle bag from Massimo Dutti, I'm kind of not sure what to do.

So I bought this lovely leather saddle bag, cost near £80 or thereabouts, and within a week it had basically collapsed into itself, forming a hideous slumpy shape, a bit like origami. Surely saddle bags are supposed to be a bit sturdier, or at least keep to some sort of basic shape....but never mind, the leather also has a crappy sheen, so you can see why I've decided to shove it into a corner and forget it ever happened.

Now I want to replace it. Ideally I'd like a tan/brown every day bag, preferably small, like a saddle or little duffle bag, or around the size of a Mulberry Lily.

I already have 2 bags - One lovely burgundy Jaeger tote, which is great for when I need to carry stuff, and one black Mulberry Lily, which I like to use for special occasions.

So my eye caught these two: and one of them is stupidly expensive, so I am caught in a bind.

Would also love a Mulberry Lily in Oak, but that would probably be a bit too much......aaargh, and thoughts? Basically, I am wary now of all damn bags and their supposed quality after the Massimo Dutti affair. I am willing to spend, but not sure how much..

Firstly - return the MD bag and add the money to new bag fund.

Secondly, I think hobbs bags are good quality but, but they don't make your heart sing. But this depends on how much you are into bags.

Thirdly, holdfire on the marcie, it may go in the sales which will be starting within the next few weeks.

I have seen the Chloe in store, and they are very lovely in real life. But so are the Lily's.....

Have a look at the mimi berry peggy bag. Although I think it's unlined, which put me off a bit.

MrsCB, not sure if I can return it, I stupidly lost the receipt. My mum said put it on ebay, but I would feel terrible trying to sell this joke of a bag.

The mimi bag is gorgeous, and very 'me', but i am afraid of it going the same saggy route, as it is same shape as my Massimo disaster.

It seems i like my bags kind of structured, not keen on slouch.

Oh no, I think if anything the leather is too hard... This is nice by Nat et Nin.

MrsCB do you know when the matches sale usually starts? will it be last week of may or not until june? you seem like a woman in the know thanks!

OP - DEF take the MD bag back and ask for a refund, not fit for purpose.

i like the chloe but wait till the sales now!

Foxy - just checked and last year I got the preview email from Matches in the first week of June, they're normally before NAP.

Selfridges normally do previews too where a lot is 20% off.

thanks MrsCB, that makes sense as I have a matches voucher which expires 31st May! makes me think sales will be first week in june.

i love that bagtoasted,its small but you can fit lots of things,i have not seen this color in the big sales(june &jan) its always the seasonal colors that go on sale.
matches send the preview emails a week before they start sales,so it helps if you are their customer,and NAP are at the end of june .

true, i've rarely seen the black or tan bags in sales, similarly with Mulberry.

I've been looking at that bag for ages, and by posting it tonight I've talked myself into buying it!!

The scaramanga bags are really lovely! The one you linked to is a bit big for me but i located the mini version, and I love the visible stitching and front pocket. Only issue is the buckle fastening - i am idle and want quicker access!

Toasted - it's not that Scaramanga bags are cheap - it's that the other bags are stupidly expensive.

nothing to add it's all been said already: return the bag to MD you don't need a receipt if faulty. buy the marcie.

Wish I hadn't looked at this thread now - I really want the Chloe bag it's perfect! Off to get dressed - day is suddenly looking better with thoughts of bag browsing at lunchtime.
