Bra intervention - have I got this right?

Wenchelda · 06/05/2013 14:02

Hi - I'm new, hope its ok to come straight on with a question....I Somehow stumbled across one of the bra intervention threads a couple of weeks ago and have been following them in amazement ever since.

I've always worn an A cup (32/34 pre pregnancy, currently 36A) - never been measured professionally but always done it myself based on the "add 4 or 5 inches" rule. I have pretty much constant back ache and neck pain but never ever imagined this could be caused by boobs as they really are so tiny!

But after reading your fascinating threads, I think I should be a 30/32D! My measurements are 31 under bust, 35 at fullest point when bending over to 90 degrees, and 34 above. Have I got that right? If so I am truly truly in shock that my almost-not-there boobs are a D!!

Thanks

Hi there can you help me with sizing I'm a 32 under breast and 36 breast measurement at 45 degree angle currently in 34 EE

SorrelForbes · 21/03/2014 20:48

Your measurements suggest a 32D but that is quite a bit smaller than your current size (assuming you meant a 34E as there is no EE). A 32D has the same cup volume as a 34C.

With your current bra on, if you scoop everything into the cup, is there overspill, bulge etc.?

ThatsMyOnlyShirt · 21/03/2014 21:47

Hi. Really sorry if that has been talked about; but I have always had asymmetrical boobs (have seen the link a bit further down) but due to BF'd only on one side there is a big difference now (one could be a C cup and one could be an A).
How would I take my measurements? Or shall I just wait till stopped feeding?

Currently wearing 34C before preganacy I was a 32B.

Really sorry if this has already been answered, I have scrolled back but couldn't find it.

SorrelForbes · 21/03/2014 21:49

OK, follow the measuring guide here. Fit your bra to the bigger breast and then see if some of the tips on Asymmetry help.

ThatsMyOnlyShirt · 21/03/2014 22:17

Thanks Sorrell.

Under bust measurement is a 29 and over is 32/33.

SorrelForbes · 21/03/2014 22:23

Your measurements suggest a 28D/DD and a 30C/D.
However your 34C has the same cup volume as a 30th and a 28E so be prepared to try those sizes too.

SorrelForbes · 21/03/2014 22:24

Sorry, that should say 30DD!

zebrastripe · 21/03/2014 22:32

Can someone help me? I've just measured a 30 under bust and 33 around.
Is this really a 30c? I'm finding that really difficult to comprehend- I normally wear a 32a but sometimes feel like I fail to 'fill' the cups.

Advice from the bra gurus would be much appreciated!

SorrelForbes · 21/03/2014 22:34

Yes a 30C. It's equivalent in cup volume to a 3rd so not that far from your current size. Do you scoop?

ThatsMyOnlyShirt · 21/03/2014 22:34

Wow. Thank you for the help. Will be trying on over the weekend!

zebrastripe · 21/03/2014 22:39

I've tried to scoop but there's not a lot there Smile

SorrelForbes · 22/03/2014 07:47

You may need a bra with fairly shallow cups. The Lepel Fiore padded plunge is good for smaller breasts as are many half cup styles. It's important to scoop even if you haven't got a lot there! Make sure you smooth all your flesh around to the front. I almost dislocate my shoulders sometimes trying to get my hand right round to my back!

TacitusMouse · 22/03/2014 19:21

Would you be able to help with some bra adjustmnts? I've been on here before but I think something's changed as I'm now very uncomfy.

Today I'm wearing a 30C and feel really insecure. The band can be pulled out about loads (c 10cm!) and I'm spilling out the top. I don't understand because this bra has definitely fitted really nicely before!

Can anyone work out what's gone wrong?!

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/03/2014 19:36

What are you measuring now? It could be bra age, or it could be that you have been scooping and gone up a cup. Or...PMT?

TacitusMouse · 22/03/2014 20:29

28.5 and 35.5
I've always scooped - this particular bra has always been a little small on the cups

I don't think PMT as I don't get that :S
It seems like it's gone funny overnight though because I wore it earlier this week!

TacitusMouse · 22/03/2014 20:30

Ok i've seen what the problem might be - my stats used to be 30.5 and 34.5 ..... how has this happened?!?!

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/03/2014 20:33

Weight loss? I lose off my band size first. I'm guessing if a 30C fitted well before you are someone who measures a little bigger than the cup size they need in general, but your current stats suggest a starting point of a 28F or thereabouts...

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/03/2014 20:34

Oh, just seen it was always a little small - your old stats would have been more like a 30D/DD which tallies.

TacitusMouse · 22/03/2014 20:37

I've lost about half a stone but not really that much. That would make sense though - don't know why round the chest has got bigger though. Strange fat redistribution

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/03/2014 20:40

Exercise along with it? I tend to go down in the back, normally stay the same overbust so gain cup sizes. But if I am hitting the gym, especially weights, it sometimes goes up. Fricking annoying as like you I can slip from 30 to 28 very easily and there's not as big a selection of 28s.

Glossolalias · 22/03/2014 21:39

Unfortunately I am not a gym fan as I'm sure it'd do wonders for my figure!

If I bought some 28s when I'm a bit fatter I could just do them on a looser hook?

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/03/2014 21:48

You should always be doing new bras on the loosest hook as they stretch with wear and need tightened up

KitKins · 03/04/2014 22:57

Please help me (plaintive cry!)

I have spent the entire day bra shopping and feel elated and deflated at the same time. I managed to walk away with a very practical bra (www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-ava-embroidered-spacer-bra/p1003066?colour=Black) (30E) and a not really me, but it was a perfect fit nice bra(www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-isabella-balcony-bra-bright-floral/p1165071) (30DD).

The feeling of a properly fitting bra really is amazing and I can't go back! I won't go back. My DD (without knowing I was wearing a new bra) asked me where my twitch was. Apparently I did a little twitch every time I stood up. It turns out I was subconsciously arranging myself!!!

I tried on a ridiculous number to get 2!!

I was wearing a 34c, but think I now need a 30DDish. I measure 29.5 around the band area and 34.5 hanging. And that is really where my problem lies. They really do hang!! They are very bottom heavy (and wide set)

I was hoping to walk away with a brand such as freya or fantasia etc and know where I stood and be able to order over the internet ( my local shops are atrocious and I had to drive 45mins today to visit those 3 shops!!). I was really limited in choice in sizes, styles and brands and everything made them look like torpedoes.

I'm thinking balconette is my go to bra shape, but where can I get those in full coverage (I don't like half bra wobble!)

Please, please, please bra fairies help me.

:o)

SorrelForbes · 04/04/2014 08:02

Welcome to world of good quality bras and frustrating shopping trips Grin

It sounds like you need to stick with the balconettes. One's that we've found work for your size and shape include:

Cleo Juna and Lucy
Bravissimo half cup styles
Freya padded half cups
Lepel Fiore/Constance/Elizabeth half cup/full cup
Tutti Rouge half cups
Fuave half cups
Curvy Kate balconettes (Showgirl range are good)

arleta66 · 15/04/2014 21:08

Hi bra expert ladies :) after posting on here previously and taking advice about new size, I am wearing a size 34ff (debenhams) previously wearing 36e, back fat much reduced and bra feels really comfy on last(loosest) hook, but I have noticed that the end of the band, where it hooks together is sort of splayed or stretching out at the end, as if it is under strain! the band certainly doesn't feel too tight and after 10lbs weight loss the cups look fine to me. I have had this happen before with bras. Any ideas?
