Bra intervention - have I got this right?

Hi - I'm new, hope its ok to come straight on with a question....I Somehow stumbled across one of the bra intervention threads a couple of weeks ago and have been following them in amazement ever since.

I've always worn an A cup (32/34 pre pregnancy, currently 36A) - never been measured professionally but always done it myself based on the "add 4 or 5 inches" rule. I have pretty much constant back ache and neck pain but never ever imagined this could be caused by boobs as they really are so tiny!

But after reading your fascinating threads, I think I should be a 30/32D! My measurements are 31 under bust, 35 at fullest point when bending over to 90 degrees, and 34 above. Have I got that right? If so I am truly truly in shock that my almost-not-there boobs are a D!!

Thanks

Oooh thanks, am hoping for a revelation (and no more having to shove my nipples back into place)! Feels like I'll be having an instant boob job - I always had the mindset that C cup was huge and out of my league.
Going to go bra shopping tomorrow - thanks!

A lovely lady at Rigby and Peller today transformed me from a 34D to a 30E! The bra she fitted me was nice (Primadonna Deauville), but not £85 nice. I'm a bit stumped now - should I order any old bra in a 30E, or if I'm ordering online, is there a small range of sizes either side that I should try? Also wondering if there's anything similar to the R&P bra out there, fit-wise.

Afterwards I tried a Freya bra in the same size and it wasn't a great fit but ended up buying one from Maison Lejaby which was pretty good in a 30E.

Thanks for any advice.

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/07/2013 20:24

I haven't tried that particular bra - I think Sorrel might have though. However if not, I would maybe treat that as your starting point when you are trying things and work from there.

riojabotherer · 26/07/2013 20:31

Thank you! What's the betting I end up going back to R&P. I think it's confidence I lack - it was great having an expert tell me the bra was right.

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/07/2013 20:33

Can you get to a Bravissimo? They have a good range (and you now know that you are in their size bracket) but their bras are generally around £30

SorrelForbes · 26/07/2013 21:01

Alas, I had the Prima Dona Wonderland. Lovely bra but I am now too big for it. It came up a bit small in the back if I recall.

My DM loves Prima Dona and I agree, they are fabulous bras. However, if I'm honest I get just as good a shape in my EMs and Cleos!

riojabotherer · 26/07/2013 21:50

I shall take my new boobs to Bravissimo. Looking for something a little younger and, dare I say, jazzier than R&P, so think I'll be in the right place. Thanks, helpful ladies.

From a fit/quality point of view, I'd ask to try a Fantasie Elodie (@£38) or their own Alana bra. The brands that R&P sell are what I would describe as vanity sized, so don't be surprised if you end up in a couple of cups bigger, especially in the Alana.

farrowandbawl · 26/07/2013 22:40

Old measurements = 32D

New Measurements = 30FF!

I can't wait to buy a bra tomorrow to see how it feels. My bra's (which I've not had for long and was "measured" for are killing me and I'm spilling out of them.

Elliptic5 · 26/07/2013 23:56

I have been fitted by Bravissimo for the last couple of years only recently I have started having problems as after I lost weight I went down two back sizes and up in cup size. My problem is the number of hooks - now virtually all the bras in my size 30GG or 28H have three hooks and I'm finding the wider band a huge problem with digging into my ribs especially when sitting down.
I also have problems with the wire under my arm rubbing if it comes up too high. Apart from putting the weight back on what can I do?
Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere.
BTW I checked with the intervention method and am 30 under and 40 over.

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/07/2013 06:43

It sounds like the size is correct - you "measure" at a 30GG but needing a 30GG in some and a 28H in others is absolutely normal.

Personally I prefer the broader bands from a support POV (I'm around a 30HH/J) although I know what you mean about slight digging when sitting down. Do you have quite a short torso (I do and suspect this is part of the reason)

Have you tried anything from Cleo? They can be high under the arm although they are generally better than the main Panache line, but they are one of the few who stick at 2 hooks throughout the size range.

Which bras do you tend to wear and what sort of shape are your boobs - close set or wide set (how big is the central gap), narrow root or wide root (how wide is each boob!), full on top, bottom or all over etc? Might help us suggest some options

Elliptic5 · 27/07/2013 07:35

Yes, my torso is short statistically. I do have one Cleo in a 30GG, which fits quite well but does start to rub under the arms during the day.
I always used to wear Freya bras before the weight loss with absolutely no problem at all usually in a balconette style.
I would say I am more close than wide set, probably wide root and full at the bottom.

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/07/2013 08:00

I tried the Curvy Kate Tease Me - I have ridiculously close set boobs and it didn't work because of that, but otherwise although it is a 3 hook band the band is very soft, the wires are wide and I seem to remember them being quite short under the arm too.

Other bras I am able to wear (also prone to armpit stabbing because my bust is quite high I think) are Ewa Michalak (the S and SM styles) and quite a few bravissimo branded ones like the Betsy Bow and Alana. Panache is my bitter enemy Grin

ILikeBirds · 27/07/2013 08:22

Pah! Another unsuccessful bra shopping trip. I had high hopes for the Alana but the F was too small and the FF was too big. Everything else I tried on just seemed randomly sized.

fairiesinthegarden · 27/07/2013 08:30

Good morning, I've been reading through all this as I have a few old bras that need replacing. Have been in a 38C for a very long time, but my measurements are actually 36 & 44 so I'm going out looking for a 36FF. Could you let me know what other sizes to try please as that's the bit I'm a little confused about. TIA.

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/07/2013 08:44

Alana runs a bit small in the cup - probably about half a size. What else did you try Ilikebirds?

Fairies start with the 36FF but have a read of this so you know how to check it fits. Get the band right first, it's the key. And SCOOP!

SpottyTeacakes · 27/07/2013 08:45

What sort of bra would you recommend for someone with one boob a good cup size bigger than the other? I'm going to do a bra intervention on my little sister today and want to be armed with knowledge Grin

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/07/2013 08:52

Have a read of this Spotty.

ILikeBirds · 27/07/2013 08:56

Tried Freya Hello Dolly in a 32f which was massive in both band and cup. Tried a 30f and still too big in the cup and no size smaller in stock

A bravissimo one that I can't remember the name of, band was fine but underwiring didn't reach round the sides.

Bravissimo cherry fling, fitted but strange shape on me

And then the Alana I mentioned earlier.

Stock was fairly rubbish and that was about all there was in my size.

SpottyTeacakes · 27/07/2013 09:06
Thanks
Elliptic5 · 27/07/2013 09:47

Statistically I have tried the Alana but it rubbed everywhere. I think Bravissimo are finding me a bit of a nuiscance as twice they have fitted me recently and I've ended up returning bras. I've still got from last time a Panache Melody which is a 3 hook and rubs, previously I got a Freya Faye which is the same.
I do have have a Freya Tabitha in 30GG which is a 2 hook and the most comfortable of my recent bras.
I will look at Curvy Kate, are all their bands soft or only on the Tease Me?

SpottyTeacakes · 27/07/2013 11:10

31 and 37?

christinecagney · 27/07/2013 11:10

Can I have some help? I measure 33.5 inches underneath and 46 inches bending over. I'm wearing a 34 DD but have a variety of totally rubbish sizes in the drawer. Worst is 38 E but on almost all sizes the straps fall off my shoulders all day.

SorrelForbes · 27/07/2013 11:13

christinecagney Straps falling down is a sure fire sign of a band that's too big for you.

Try a 32JJ/J and a 34J/HH. TBH I can't imagine how uncomfortable your 34DD must be. What happens to the cups if you scoop? How far can you stretch the band away from your body?

christinecagney · 27/07/2013 11:20

I can pull the band about 3 inches away from my body. If I scoop it all blobbles crepe-style-ee out of the top and makes me have a carry on film sort of cleavage. Mmm attractive.
