GHDs believe the hype?

I never get round to styling my hair properly, I just kid myself I suit the relaxed, bushy wavy look. But someone at uni today had AMAZING hair which would need straightening everyday to look good.

I have straighteners but they are crap, I'm looking to buy some new ones, which would be quick and effective on very thick wavy hair (need to be quick or I wouldn't use them). I don't really fancy paying all that money for GHDs though, any suggestions of equally brilliant straighteners without the hefty price tag, or are GHDs my only option?

Maybe I'll start a collection, I'll walk round with a bucket and ask for donations to save me from my hideous hair. Grin

Yes, GHD's are worth the hype and worth the price tag.

I have thick wavy hair that is very stubborn and GHD's are the only straighteners to work-and my hair stays straight all day.

Wish we'd had straighteners when I was a teenager, my life would have been transformed! Grin

I used to iron my hair on the ironing board, then I hit GHDs.
Agree that they really do tame my very thick curly hair. And I had tried lots of cheaper alternatives before. The iron was the only thing that worked.
I have had mine for years too. You do need to get a tooth grip though and do the hair in layers, IMO. So 20-25 mins one evening before bed. Then lovely straight hair all week! My hair is dry and never gets greasy, so I can get a week in between washes, although usually do every 5 days.

Does everyone reckon these are genuine? They seem legit, but there's quite a few reviews suggesting otherwise (there are many more reviews raving about them too).

have a look here at the GHD official site that informs you of bona fide stockists

that one you linked looks fine

I use to be a huge ghd fan until my third pair caught on fire a few months ago. I couldn't justify another pair so bought these and they're amazing! I honestly think they're better than ghd's.

Sorry, just realised my post was a bit late. Enjoy your ghd's :-)

PessimisticMissPiggy · 22/04/2013 23:14

They are great, but I found the same results with the GHD hairdryer and a big brush.

freddiefrog · 22/04/2013 23:23

I've had several sets of cheap straighteners over the years, before finally getting GHDs with Christmas money a couple of years ago.

None of the others compare to be honest, if I think about all the money wasted on cheap ones, I wish I'd just bought the GHDs in the first place

freddiefrog · 22/04/2013 23:24

Oops, note to self, read thread properly

HungryClocksGoBackFourSeconds · 22/04/2013 23:36

I just hope mine don't set on fire!

do you love them? I came on to tell you that I have 3 pairs! 1 thick plate pair, 1 normal plate and 1 purple set. Grin

That said, 3 out of 4 people in our house use them.
My DS (yes, a boy) had longish hair for a while and I took a pair of GHDs away on holiday and left him with another ceramic pair at home. He noticed the difference immediately when he couldnt get his hair perfect first time.
DS now has short hair again and no longer needs my straighteners.

HungryClocksGoBackFourSeconds · 26/04/2013 22:00

Yes, I have been walking around swishing. My friend said I looked lovely too, and she always has good hair, so that's a real compliment!
