Do shoes worn bare foot ALWAYS hurt you?

Or is it just me? I bought some loafers to wear sans socks and am busy wearing them in. Mate look askance! She never has this. Now I do have skinny long chicken feet so getting shoes that are slim enough is a big deal.

So here I am, wearing them with socks around the house as they pinch on my heels.

AM I alone?

I'm another with super duper sensitive feet. I envy people who can flit around sockless in their flats without having massively sweaty and blistered feet.

I might try the soaking them in alum tip that was mentioned earlier but blisterwise I think I just have delicate crappy skin.

Mrsrobertduvall · 23/04/2013 13:58

Oh I struggle with shoes..long narrow feet here.
Wore brand new ones yesterday, uber expensive, and they rubbed my heel. And I was in the car.

I have started looking longingly at JosefnSeibel type sandals and thinking how comfy they look.

woozlebear · 23/04/2013 15:54

Oh fellow sufferers!! The ONLY thing I can wear without socks for any kind of actual walking is Birkenstocks, and even with them my 5th pair, purchased last summer, torments me and gives me blisters on the SOLE of my foot. Angry. Flip flops are agony for anything other than poolside shuffling. Even some fugly hiking sandals (of which I have many, and I don't care) with oodles of soft padded fabric lining bits give me blisters in really hot weather! I love winter. Boots and thick socks nearly always work. My feet are ridiculous hysterical prima donnas. I hate them. For 6 months of the year I have to carry emergency socks and plasters with me at all times. It's ludicrous. Pop socks are no help whatsoever with a shoe determined to hurt me.

There are a few very very very very soft ballet pumps with fabric trim and suede inners that I can wear bare footed but I mostly keep them for inside the office as they're so precious I dread wearing them out. Last year Accessorize started doing some like that, but until then I used to buy them in Spain every year. (Btw, Spanish shoes beat Italian hands down for people like us).

My feet aren't especially sweaty when treated properly, but anything with synthetic inners will make them very sweaty indeed and cause instant blisterage. I don't think they're especially narrow...

I wear Josef Ziebel comfort shoes too. I wore their tan leather brogues today. It is getting warmer though and I knew that I'll have to transfer to sandals soon. Sob.

I have never worn flip flops and anything with a thong between the toes would have my feet raw and bleeding in moments.

Chandon · 24/04/2013 17:15

Agree about Spanish shoes, pikolinos are good.

MsUumellmahaye · 24/04/2013 17:22

woozle, i have same feet as you :(

WillieWaggledagger · 24/04/2013 17:26

Yep I have v sensitive feet. I have to wear my feet in for flip flops every year.

Yes I know I could just not wear them, but that would be sensible Wink

MinnesotaNice · 24/04/2013 17:27

Can't you just wear shoe liners? In most cases, even with ballet shoes, you can't see them and it looks like you are barefoot. Just in case though, I buy them in nude. I find it keeps the blisters at bay.

YY to Toms though. Sooo comfortable. Don't even need shoe liners with those.

WillieWaggledagger · 24/04/2013 17:28

Tbh I'm so used to having a plaster somewhere on my feet most of the time that I forget

WillieWaggledagger · 24/04/2013 17:28

Pop socks etc wouldn't make a difference for me

CeeceeBloomingdale · 24/04/2013 17:52

All shoes leave me in agony until the moment they look ugly and start falling apart then they become ultracomfy. I buy good quality shoes, always leather. My friend wears cheap, plastic stilettos constantly but doesn't suffer. S'not fair

BitOutOfPractice · 24/04/2013 17:59

You lot are wimps. It's only pain

MimsyBorogroves · 24/04/2013 17:59

Yep - backs of heels get enormous blisters. Little toes are usually covered in blisters too.

Rocket dog and other "pumps" (or whatever they're called) make my feet really, really sweaty (not even sweaty. Wet) and really sore. I've yet to have any shoes of that style which don't smell like I've got a dead mouse in the shoe as well as my feet.

Dr Martens were always the worst - I used to say that your feet had to break into the shoes. I bought some gorgeous high heel ones a few years ago and wore them for a day trip to London. By the end of the day I was seriously considering just walking through London barefoot. They came off on the train and nearly went out of the window.

MinnesotaNice · 24/04/2013 18:00

Would these help?

WillieWaggledagger · 24/04/2013 18:10

it's not about sweaty feet for me, though, it happens with leather sandals too

i'm just a pathetic weed

FrugalFashionista · 24/04/2013 18:32

Re: shoe liners, I can't tell how many of them I've seen in the past few days. They, um, are not invisibile - other people will always see parts of them peeking out. I think they and nude nylon popsocks and beige underwear will kill your sex life Grin.

I think there is no good middle ground here - bite the bullet and go barefoot or find tights or socks that look good on you.

yellowhousewithareddoor · 24/04/2013 18:53

But what do you end up wearing with skirts? Or in summer in general? I've just looked in Clarks and lots of ballet pumps and lovely shoes that would look silly with socks.

libertychick · 24/04/2013 22:41

Another sensitive foot person here - all shoes hurt me. Takes weeks to break them in and I wince at the thought of wearing closed shoes without socks or tights. I keep fabric plasters in my handbag at all times.

I have never found shoe liners that don't stick out. I wear tights or popsocks and Grin at frugal saying popsocks ruin your sex life - the trick is to make them the last thing you put on and the first you take off and never, ever wear them with a skirt!

snoworneahva · 25/04/2013 06:07

Would normally add my feet to this list, i get blisters even from shoes and sandals i have previously broken in but I have discovered the holy grail of sandals - Saltwater - they are the only sandals never to blister my feet from new. They say in the blurb on the box - in the unlikely event these sandals rub your feet and cause sore spots, get them wet and allow them to dry on you feet - sort of the 501 equivalent of sandals - I didn't even need to do that. I love them so much I've ordered a second pair!

AgathaF · 25/04/2013 08:42

Oh, so I'm not the only one then????

Skinny, long, thin-skinned feet here too. In summer, if I'm going to be walking further that say, a cm, I take a big bag and 2 spare pairs of flip-flops to rotate the pain areas. Also, these are fairly super too, although not perfect by a long way - here.

I don't think comfortable footwear exists really. Well, my walking boots are comfy with very thick socks on, but that's about it, and they just don't look right with dresses.

BitOutOfPractice · 25/04/2013 08:44

I have just googled saltwater sandals!! I need eye bleach! Are you actually legally allowed to wear them over the age of 3?!?!

badguider · 25/04/2013 08:59

actully in brown, white or black, i think they look very italian/spanish and quite classic.

and if you look the women's are definitely 'finer' with thinner leather and soles than the children's.

AndTwoBits · 25/04/2013 10:11

I have the most sensitive heels ever. Summer is a pain for me because of my shoe dilemma, at least in the Winter I can just wear my ankle boots and wedge trainers. I just can't wear anything with a back. I end up hobbling around the place within the hour with bleeding and blistered heels no matter how cheap or expensive the shoes. I wore my Converse the other day for the school run and had an enormous blister on my heels by the time I got home an hour later, and that was with thick socks!! I have tried Geox loafers, Ecco pumps, Rockport deck shoes, oh so many different brands and styles! This summer I will accept the fact that I must wear open backed sandals. I have a pair of Fly sandals with an open back and these are comfy but a bit high. I wouldn't be power walking in them, that's for sure..I did see a pair of gladiator sandals in Clarks yesterday, they look super comfy so may consider these.

squoosh · 25/04/2013 10:42

Awwww I quite like saltwater sandals.

I think this pair are gorgeous

AndTwoBits · 25/04/2013 10:48

Oh they are cute!! And that's how I'd wear them too! Dare I try a pair!!
