How much do you spend on clothes per month for you and the DCs??? I'm being nagged that it's too much...

love clothes but am sticking to a budget of £50 since last September - write down everything I buy. Not much on ds, I buy nice but less stuff prob averaging £6 a month not including shoes for him

I probably average £300 a month for me and two little boys. A lot gets handed down, and that doesn't include uniform or shoes for the DCs.

Around £250 a month for me, DH and two DSs (one largely in hand me downs). A fair portion of that goes on shoes for the boys, as they are young and seem to change size every couple of months!

I probably spend an average of £150 a month for me and barely anything on DS - would probably average £30 per month (including school uniform).

I have no idea - some months nothing then other months everything falls apart and ds grows like a weed and nothing fits all of a sudden!

So come on then OP, how much are you spending?

god feel poor now, though already have a good capsule wardrobe so just adding to it now.

Ummm....I bought some clothes for the girls just before Christmas. Can't remember when I bought something for me

I've written everything that I spend on me for years. Around 4 years ago I was spending far too much, so have cut back a bit. So far this year am averaging at around £135 a month.
Didn't buy anything in January but got a stunning cashmere cardi in the Brora sale in Feb.
These days I would rather buy one nice item than lots of cheaper things.
My DD is 18 & buys most of her own clothes, although I do treat her from time to time. ( Or she "borrows" my stuff )My 3 boys are cheap to clothe, the 2 younger ones often have hand me downs. The older one is very much a jeans, trainers & t shirts boy. He is 15, and not in to clothes at all. It's the shoes that are expensive. £45 in John Lewis for school shoes!!! ( and he hates them)

Not much on the kids. They have hand me downs and I'll do a big shop in the Boden sale. I just don't agree with kids having lots if clothes because you want them to, unless its ripped or doesn't fit then they can wear it.

I'm trying to lose weight so I'm trying not to buy anything for a bit but need to work out a summer work wardrobe, so will probably end up getting some stuff. I fritter a lot on make up bits and £80 on my hair every six weeks.

I have never kept track of this, but I would guess an average of about £80-£100 per month on myself, with a bigger spend of around £200-300 on top of that as seasons change, and less on the children - I just replenish their wardrobe in one go when they grow up into the next size usually, or update their wardrobes at change of season. Over the year this probably averages out at around £20 per month per child (preschoolers).
I might actually start keeping track of it though - it would be interesting to see if my guesses here are accurate. Or if I am wildly deluded

I spend nothing on myself, haven't bought clothes since last year! Nothing on dd either as all hand me downs from parents of children I look after.

Think I need to buy more clothes! Didn't realise other people spent much on themselves

I spend up to £50 a month on me. I have recently audited my wardrobe and listed everything I have so I can focus on things I need.

Don't spend much on the children as the get bought lots of clothes as gifts. I buy their clothes in sales and buy a size above. They get bought lots clothes from family who know to buy the next size up.

I have always felt so guilty buying myself clothes, even before dc, but I think I need to look after myself a but more, so maybe I will allocate myself a budget I can use without feeling awful

Sorry for the delay, I haven't been avoiding the question, honest. My phone keeps saying "null" when I try to go into my threads.

Anyway, last month I spent 300, hence the from my DH. I was buying spring summer clothes so it was definitely more than usual. I reckon usual is about 100-150 for me and 10 for each DC as they generally have hand me downs but occasionally need a coat or something.

DH thinks it's far too much as he's been living in the same three t-shirts and pair of jeans for about 20 years...

Tell him to get a grip.

We have that budget for me and the DCs built into our monthly budget, as we try to do with all necessary expenses that aren't exactly the same each month - car and house maintenance, christmas and birthdays and so on.

I suppose it all depends on your disposable income Marathonmama. If your overdrawn £300 a month is too much but if you have it why not?
I spend about £400 a month on myself and DD but do occasionally hide a big splurge. Don't know why cos it's my money and DH never says anything. He will happily hand over his card for a big boden order but doesn't enjoy clothes shopping otherwise.

I have been over on the frugal thread. I was spending £300 - £400 per month on myself. Whilst I have no debts or credit cards, it feels wasteful and there's things I now need to do to the house that the money could be better spent on.
For the past couple of months, I have limited it to £120 per month on myself. I buy high street - boden, M&S, Next, Topshop, Clarks etc... I am learning that one nice item is better than lots of cheap ones.
I don't spend so much on 2 DC. Around £250 per year on school uniform and shoes. I then do a big spring summer shop and a big winter shop, spending around £200 each time including shoes and trainers.

If I counted footwear, it would be a lot. Climbing boots, school shoes, trainers for a big family does add up. Clothes wise, very little, I trawl the charity shops for me so most things are £3 or less. For the dcs I order from next if they have outgrown something, but we don't shop for entertainment.

To all of you spending £several hundred a month on yourselves, don't you have too many clothes? Where do you put them all?

it totally depends on what they/I need and how much we can afford.

I haven't bought anything for DCs all year except a swimsuit for DD, and she needs a new pair of trainers so will get those next week.

on me it depends - anywhere from nothing to £200 per month, but that is absolute tops.

I don't really know tbh. I tend to mainly shop 2-3 times per year for both me and the dcs. So prob spend quite a lot in those marathon sessions but hardly anything in between.

£20.00 on a shirts and pair of trousers each (band uniform) for dds today, £30.00 on a pair of new school shoes last week, say £30.00 on school dresses the week before, they both need new trainers but that'll have to wait until after pay day. Nothing on me this month but I haven't needed anything really. Don't tend to buy stuff for the sake of it. Might buy some summer stuff for next year in the Boden/Next/Monsoon sales later in the year, I usually do that and it serves us well. This thread has inspired me to write it down in future!
