How did we finish the other thread so fast...? Less than a month.

Last one before the "significant" one!

Stropperella · 26/04/2013 14:23

I have an S&B issue and I would value some Crepey input. I have a liking for what some might call "statement trousers". Others might call them "loud". I believe that I can wear them and look stylish, but I may be deluding myself. I have those stripey trews from M&S. If I pair them with a shirt and a velvet waistcoat, will I look as though I am refugee from the circus suffering from pre-senile dementia, or will I look presentable? I have no bloody idea. Which is worrying.

bigTillyMint · 26/04/2013 14:38

Hmmm... Difficult question! I am erring to the side of demented circus refugee, but What the HeckGrin

Stropperella · 26/04/2013 14:45

Grin Grin Ah you see, I just don't know what to do. I am beginning to think I have to choose between looking like a demented circus refugee and like a mumsy, specky, beige old bag, as I don't seem able to do any other "look".

herbaceous · 26/04/2013 14:54

I think they could look 'statement' with a more boring top, like a single-colour jersey number.

I think anything involving waistcoats is a bit 90s. Or, indeed, circus.

bigTillyMint · 26/04/2013 14:56

Yes, Herbs, you are quite right - a bright but plain top would look much mes demented and circus refugee!

motherinferior · 26/04/2013 15:01

I like waistcoats but kind of agree with Herbs too...

Awwww. I love waistcoats. I'm not very good at just wearing a top because I like plenty of layers to hide under due to body image isshoos.I sort of missed the 1990s, for various reasons, were waistcoats a thing then?

I think I don't have the right sort of top that I would feel comfortable leaving the house in without a cardigan/waistcoat/bin liner/chainmail/absolutely-anything-really over the top. Perhaps the statement trousers will have to go back in the wardrobe until it's big jumper weather again.

I farking hate getting dressed for things, I do. It's much easier to stay in my loft and pretend to be indisposed that go out and be judged.

Am having family party jitters.

Stropperella · 26/04/2013 15:14

Am not in possession of a v-neck jumper. Is also too much skin and neck wattle on display.

herbaceous · 26/04/2013 15:16

A slouchy jumper/top that barely touches the upper body could be the answer, Strops? There are lots in the shops, I believe. Or something involving batwing sleeves...

Stropperella · 26/04/2013 15:17

Can I get away with "I can't come to your really important party and meet loads of people I haven't seen for 30 years because I am too scared to get dressed and my dog is ill?"

QueenQueenie · 26/04/2013 15:49

Lovely Stropps. I remember your link to the statement trousers and I like them. Am v partial to a loud trouser myself... but I do think they benefit from a plain and simple top half. IMO if you are rather dreading this event you might want to consider wearing something simple and unstatementy. do you have a knee length dress that you like and are comfortable in? You could add a statement necklace / scarf / some bold shoes...
I'm hesitating to post this as it sounds too bossy, forgive me if you think it is.

Re crepey weekender . I may have a cunning plan...

bigTillyMint · 26/04/2013 16:14

Willy WonkaGrin - hope you have a top hat, Stropps!

Good style advice QQ, and what's your cunning plan?

Am getting very excited at the thought of the sleepover/party (although I just want to say that I do NOT have a show-home - it is a very ordinary house and I am no domestic godessBlush) - DH just needs to tell his mum and dad that they are coming... I'm sure it won't be a problem.... Grin

QueenQueenie · 26/04/2013 16:30

I will post the reveal when I have investigated... .

And neither do I

hattymattie · 26/04/2013 17:17

BTM - you sound lovely - I'm sorry I can't be at party. I think "lived in" probably describes our house - cracks in ceiling, random shoes here and there that sort of thing.

Stropps - no to waistcoat - plain top (black) with trousers. Or plain top with nice cardi if chilly.

Mrs S - can you recommend me one or two nice but not expensive restaurants in Paris for quick lunch with DH next week.

bigTillyMint · 26/04/2013 17:31

Hatty, lived-in describes ours tooSmile

Envy at nice restaurants for lunch in Paris.
I don't even get a lunch-break at work. Think of an 8yo's version of One Flew Over the Cukoos Nest at lunchtime Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/04/2013 19:11

Hattymattie - which arrondissement?

OP posts:
Cremolafoam · 26/04/2013 20:00

Parties
Sleepovers
Fancy pants lunches?

You lot have been busy . Grin
I have had another shitty week ( dh not very well: old friend died; replacement crown following agonising root canal whoop whoop)

so the idea of a crepey bus run sounds fabulous! September weekend sounds good. I could reveal myself for the second time to real life mumsnetters.

MI we have just booked a trawl of Scottish universities when your party is taking place , but I hope you all have a divine time.WineThanks

No to waistcoat I think. Unstructured jacket over plain top . Heels and statement necklace
comme ceci

Stropperella · 26/04/2013 20:30

Oh my crepey friends, thank you for all your suggestions. I'm afraid I am a terrible S&B disappointment. I have to go to this thing which is terrifying me tomorrow. I do not own any heels or anything black. I have only 2 dresses and never wear either of them as I don't much like all that womany business and can't carry it off. I hate the way my legs look in skirts. I have rather a lot of waistcoats. I love clothes and looking at other people's choices and pretending I can wear them, but I live my life in jeans and shapeless jumpers.

So I'll probably just go with jeans and hiding in a corner.

bigTillyMint · 26/04/2013 20:40

Oh StroppsSad

Would your DD be of any help in the trying on and advising about what you have in your wardrobe/lending you a top or something?

And I am sure I have never thought any of your outfits to be gopping on our Crepey meet-ups - wear one of them?

Blackduck · 26/04/2013 21:00

Evening all tres tired here...
Stropps wish you lived closer - I am sure I would have a top go with your strides (and I think we are quite similar - just spent two days with a bunch of ladies, I came home feeling like a scruff and not grown up at all...... :( )

My house is very lived in.....

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/04/2013 21:01

My house is covered in a light coating of cat fur.
And is generally a tip.
