Buying make up off ebay?

I've been browsing ebay for make up and there are some good prices on the more expensive products. I'm looking particularly for a foundation. I know what colour I need but I'm a bit concerned about fakes. I don't suppose there's any way of telling if things are genuine or not? Anyone else buy foundation or tinted moisturiser from ebay?

Depends, where the seller is based? Think the majority of make up items shipped from Hong Kong/China tend to be fake ( the mac brushes I bought were anyway)

It is worth looking on eBay but you need to be savvy about checking feedback etc. Therenis a lot of fake stuff on eBay, that's for sure. There are also a lot of Make up Artists, Beauty Bloggers, Beauty Editors who get sent lots of products and end up having to have a "cull" to make space for new products. There are products which may have been used once or twice and then put on eBay because they've been tried out/swatches/used on one photo shoot and then not needed again. I've seen a lot of mumsnetters being all grossed out about the idea of buying cosmetics that have been used once or twice, but most make up artists use good hygiene practice with their products.
