CointreauVersial -I was just about to suggest the same two. Une Rose is dirty and sexy, and Rose Chypree makes me feel all capable and efficient and smart.

I love the paul smith one. I also use NY rose facial oil and if you put it on your neck too you can smell it all day

Read the thread on Tuesday, tried Paul Smith Rose in Boots, ordered 100ml for £16.95 with free delivery, just received it, very pleased.

Gerrof do you wear Nahema?

Report
Gerrof · 11/04/2013 14:14

No, not Nahema. I am a boring dullard with perdume and wear l'Heure Bleu, Shalimar or Mitsouko with some of the Acuqa Allegoria in the summer. I have had a look at some of thjese perfumes, does anyone know ehre best to get samples?

I order samples from Les Scenteurs. Geroff, I think you might like Rose Chypree.

I used to have a thing about roses, my favourites were Vivienne Westwood Anglomania (leathery rose) and Bond No 9 Chinatown (woody spicy rose). Going to dig out the Bond now :)

Oh good lord, that website. What a treasure trove.

Thank you very much, I have ordered a sample of rosé chypree and also a sample of narcisse noir and then completed my order quickly and got out of there!

I love the Paul Smith one as well but this thread has made me start wearing some ancient Paris. And I got told I smelt lovely this morning Grin Going to investigate some of these others now.

I second Paul Smith; it's lovely.

If you ever get the opportunity, go to The Cinnamon Lounge in Westminster (Indian restaurant). They do the nicest rose martini ever. Sorry to go off topic, but it's a rose related pleasure I feel quite strongly about.

Innocent Rock by Thierry Mugler, very un-muglery, but rosy, great for all occasions that can be layered up with Parisienne L'Extreme by Yves Saint Laurent for the night.

Eugenes off topic rosishness, but have you every tried rose petal jam? It is obtainable very cheaply in Turkey, and very expensively in Fortnum's but it is delectable. The rose martini sounds wonderful. Any idea how they make them?

Chocsaway - do you know of any Yves Rocher stockists in the UK? I know they used to have shops, but haven't seen one for years. My mum has always used YR products, I grew up loving all the parcels, samples, mystery gifts. I used to love one of their fragrances, long discontinued. I'd like to try them again but don't like buying fragrance without trying it.

I love Paul Smith Rose too.

Not a fragrance as such, but the rose range by Dr Organic in Holland and Barratt has a fabulous hand cream, smells beautiful.

WhoKnows- There used to be one in London but I think they just do mail order on the website now.

I can understand you wanting to try before you buy, but prices start at £5 for a little vanilla spray and you get 3 free samples and a free gift with each order, so maybe try that?

I second lipstick rose (Frederick Malle) beautiful rose/violet but v.sweet and not to everyone's taste. It's my spring/summer perfume, is almost warm enough now to put away the tabac blond and crack open the lipstick rose!

HintOfBream - no I haven't but booyah! My parents are about to go to Istanbul for a few days so I'll give DM the tip off. She's a rose fan too.

It's vodka martini (presume normal dimensions) with a rose syrup I think; nothing too complex. It tastes sort of velvety though; sounds nasty as a texture but I thought it brilliant. They float a deep red rose petal on the top.

I also remember starkly a rose chocolate fudge cake I had from a stand at the Breacon Jazz Festival. They had soaked rose petals (fragrant ones) in syrup and put a layer in with the chocolate icing in the middle. And I presume some rosewater in said icing. It worked surprisingly well.

Thanks Eugenes, I will have a go at the rose martini, as I have rose syrup and some very strong rose essence which Lakeland used to stock; I use it to make rose sponge cake with, as you described, rose icing and a layer of the jam. I bought the jam at the airport if your DM doesn't get the chance to pop into a shop.
Apols again for not being very S&B

Can I recommend Gin and Rosewater by Tokyo Milk.
It is seriously lovely and I love the fact.that all their products are made using only essential oils.
I order them from a home botique in Doncaster, cannot remember what it's called right now but if you google it should not be too hard to find.

Rose Petal jam is known as a laxative in Southern Europe.
Careful with that!

Or infact a place called Bath and Unwind now has there full range in stock.

What's S&B? To my mind you have nothing to apologise for :)

I like your name - that random fishing programme featured bream the first time I watched it, and the very enthusiastic presenter bloke caught one and said 'Look at that! What a stonker.'

Laxative Yoniliahoax?? I've never noticed but it would be nicer than Ex-Lax

Thanks Chocs - I had another look at the YR website last night and found that my old favourite has been revived, so I am going to put in an order (website didn't work properly on my phone last night). I wonder if I will still like it, it has been about 25 years. I will try the Rose as well.
