Please help me look better in 4 months

I have had a horrible year already - husband has left me. I really want to try to improve my self confidence by making myself look and feel better. I have a big social event at the beginning of August and I would rather people talk about how I have changed for the better rather than for the worse mainly because it is the first time I will be seen out in public since STBXH left.

I have seen today as day one and done the following:

Drank 2 litres of water
Taken fish oils
Done TA workout
Done facial exercises
Did a glycolic acid peel at home
Home bleached my teeth.

I need to lose about 4 stone but am worried about starting to look gaunt around the face if I lose it too quickly...but I am tempted by Slim and Save or doing the 5:2 diet - any experiences or suggestions gratefully received

Wow - my 'pull yourself together and sort it out' day started today too (bereavement, not dh leaving - I'm very sorry you're owing through that). And I've done EXACTLY the same stuff except the facial exercises! Spooky! TA whipped my b, I can't move! :)

cocolepew · 01/04/2013 22:42

Sorry for your troubles, but blimey that's a good start!

Just cut back on eating betwen meals, try to walk if you are able.

Get a good haircut, colour if you want.
Do you wear make up usually?
I like to do my nails. I'm generally a casual dresser, jeans converse etc. But I always have my make up and my nails done. It just makes me feel more 'together'.

Whats the TA workout?

libertychick · 01/04/2013 22:42

Well done on the new start dietcoke and knit
Re diet I agree with not losing too fast - losing anything will help you look better so slow and steady much better. I cut out sugar last year and lost weight very easily just doing that.
Good luck with it all.

cocolepew · 01/04/2013 22:43

Sorry for your loss knitknack.

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep · 01/04/2013 22:44

This is my day 1 too. I need to lose a stone and get back into a proper beauty routine. Didn't quite manage a workout, but spent most of the day spring cleaning and decluttering, so at least my house looks in good shape today!

Sorry to hear about your husband. Can you take some that anger/hurt and use it to keep your motivation up?

dietcokefriend · 01/04/2013 22:50

Oh knitknack sorry to here about the bereavement. That is spooky. I just felt today that I had to take my life back in some way. I used to be slim and care about how I looked but have let things slip big time...

Thanks cocolepew.

I'm hoping 'TA' is Tracy Anderson, cause that's what I was doing :D. My arms are killing me!

knitknack · 01/04/2013 22:52

Thanks diet. Maybe it's because spring is NEARLY here that we're feeling like this now? Lets hope we can keep it up!

Mollydoggerson · 01/04/2013 22:53

Hey there,

Can I join too. I've been bereaved twice in the last 3 months and need to pick myself up and try to improve my looks and self esteem. Will start tomorrow.

Goals:

Lose 3 stone
Improve skin and body tone.

Daily goals:
Drink 2 litres of water.
Walk for 1 hour per day - get my 10 000 steps.
Cut out sugar.
Limit kcals to 1400 per day

dietcokefriend · 01/04/2013 22:54

MyChild I am trying to do that so that something good comes out of this mess. He was such a lovely man and I would never have thought he would do this to me. I thought everything was fine but he is now with someone else. I am hoping that I will go back to looking good again as I would love him to have just a little bit of regret of what he has done.

Sounds like you're off to a good start. Sorry about the shit time.

Practicalities! Don't worry about saggy skin etc at this point. That in itself is a form of self sabotage. Concentrate on the job in hand right now - which is losing the weight. I lost 3 stone in 11 weeks last year using slim and save. It works, and 8 months later I am still 7lbs within my target weight. I'd like to lose that half a stone however...so I will keep an eye on this thread and chip in if thats ok.

glub · 02/04/2013 00:09

say goodbye to sugar. god it's addictive :(

glub · 02/04/2013 00:10

works though!

cedge · 02/04/2013 01:31

dietcokefriend....can i ask your age?

HarrySnotter · 02/04/2013 08:21

Oh can I join too please? I lost 12 lbs at the start of the year using MFP but I've really let it slip over the last 6 weeks and put half of that back on again. Sad. I need a good kick up the arse to be honest. The last couple of years have been quite horrible, lost both my parents and DD been very ill but I need to get myself out of it and I hate how I look at the moment.

Plan is to:

Lose 2 stone (1400 cals a day, very achieveable but I'm greedy)
Exercise more
Take fish oils
Sort my hair out
Have my nails done
Take care of my skin
Drink tons of water
Home bleach teeth (but I don't know how?)
MOST importantly, try to have a more positive outlook.

dietcoke I'm sorry you've had such a hard time, I'm sure you can achieve your goals and knock em dead at your social event. Best of all, I hope you get your mojo back, that's what I'm after! Smile

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 02/04/2013 13:26

I started a week ago, I have peeled, had a hair cut, brazilian straightened my hair (amazing stuff), pedicured, started looking after my hands and nails, bought a hair colour, started my slimming world regime and lost 11lbs Shock (still 4 stone to go Sad) I feel better already and am doing a proper skin routine morning and night. Got my house organised with cupboards and drawers sorted and tidied. all is going well for now Smile hoping DH who has been away a week with 2 more to go will notice on his return.

mrgarybarlow · 02/04/2013 16:19

I use My Fitness Pal and also use the app Mapmywalk. I think it feels better walking when you can see how many calories you are burning. It makes me walk further too as it feels like there is a reason for it.

HarrySnotter · 02/04/2013 18:41

I've never heard of Mapmywalk, going to download that later. Grin

StepAway I want to be exactly where you are this time next week!
