How often do you wash your hair?

I have cropped hair so it dries in the morning when I'm putting on some makeup, not used a hair dryer for years. However I recently changed my hair colour from blonde to red and was advised not to wash it every day to try and preserve the colour. The longest I can leave it is to wash every other day then I feel like a right manky coo and was it. Have tried dry shampoos but they make it feel candy floss. Any suggestions ?

every day, mine is really fine so the grease seems to slide straight down. Also, my hair frizzes if I shower so I can't beat the thought of not showering. eugh!

if I exercise, I'll wash it twice in one day happily.

I have long thick hair and I wash it almost every day.

I've tried washing it less often but I hate it - it gets greasy at the roots and makes me feel manky. Even wearing it up still feels yuk. I really did persevere with washing less often, in the hope that it would be all lovely and shiny, but what's the point having lovely shiny hair every few days and it being an oily mess the rest if the time? Dry shampoo was also no use.

It takes me ages to wash and dry as it doesn't dry quickly enough on its own. But as long as I condition and get regular cuts its fine, and I feel nice.

twice a week here too. I have highlighted just past shoulder length naturally v mad and curly (but I straighten it each morning). Like many things as I get older, I find it is more of a production - though it has good results. Once a week I use Philip Kingsley elasticiser before shampooing, then the other time I just shampoo and condition with Kerastase. It often looks much better the day after washing.

When I shampooed it every day with any old thing, it was in much worse condition

Every other day or more often if I have been exercising.

When I had a crop I washed it every day. Now I have a bob and a couple of years ago, when I moaned to the hairdresser about the colour going very bright, she said that washing it every day was doing this, and to try reducing the amount of times per week that I washed it. So I gradually went to every other day, then to every 3rd day, and so on. I can leave it to a full week but it does feel a bit rank, so I usually wash it every 5/6 days. After 4 days I usually use a bit of dry shampoo, or I have a Tresemme foam thing which I scrunch through the hair and blowdry it (no need for ghd as its just a reviver). Definitely the colour lasts better with less washing.

Wash and dry it everyday - hate the feeling of unwashed hair.

Used to have to wash daily, went no poo a few Weeks ago ( bicarb to wash, apple cider vinegar to condition, google it) & it's now not greasy the day after washing. I'm now down to 3 washes a week & it feels loads better. My psoriasis is clearing up too...

Every other day, if I wash it daily I get a frizz explosion.

Once a week.

Used to wash it every other day, but it left my hair in awful condition.

I have really thick, dry hair so I wash it give the outside a quick blast with drier then tie it up, when I go to bed that night and untie it, its still wet underneath. By morning its dry and I ghd it. It's still usually quite frizzy. By day 3, I ghd it in the morning and it looks fab. Then day 4 I look at my nice smooth hair and feel sad that I have to bloody wash it again.

"Have to admit that I'm a bit that I'm in the minority - I just assumed everyone washed their hair everyday!"

Washing hair every day is a fairly recent thing. When I was a teenager in the 1970s most people washed their hair once a week. But most houses didn't have showers either.

I have short hair that is prone to dryness and wash it twice a week. Any more frequently and it looks like straw.

Does washing your hair more often encourage greasiness?
