How to get better looking skin?

I've noticed just recently that my foundation is making my skin look a bit dry and really sitting in my wrinkles/lines, especially around my eyes, mouth and my lovely big frown line right in between my eyebrows Hmm I have an oily t-zone so I use a mattifying foundation (No7 Beautifully Matte). I did use powder but have stopped to see if it makes any difference as to the dryness (my skin's not actually dry, it just looks it). What am I doing wrong? Should I be using a different foundation? Will a primer make any difference? Any recommendations for a good primer if they will make a difference.

I think when you have combination skin that you buy the foundation to suit the largest part of your face so if you're dry on the majority of it you need an oil based foundation.

And then you just powder the T zone. I do like primers but I also like to add a bit of facial oil (decleor or liz Earle super skin) to my moisturiser.
