Talk to me about denim jackets

I really wanted to love the jersey blazer I ordered but it is short and boxy on me mainly due to massive norks helpfully resized as a 32G on this very forum. I can't decide between trying a different brand or going for a denim jacket. Essentially, I want a spring jacket to wear with skinny jeans / dresses.

What is the current thought on denim jackets and does anyone have the Boden one?

I liked this one from Fat Face too:

Is a denim jacket still a classic or has it had its day??

It is one of those items of clothing that will never date as long as you don't sin and wear the dreaded denim on denim Wink

Had it's day (long ago) IMO

I still wear one - it's very fitted and slightly cropped. In fact, I might well buy a new one as mine is ancient. They are everywhere and lots of the 'young folk' wear them, so I don't think they've had their day. Denim bikers seem to have made quite a comeback in the last year or two, as well.

I think the basic fitted and slightly cropped denim jacket is a classic.

I have the Boden one from a few seasons ago. I like it, and do wear it a fair bit, it is very useful. However it is fairly short, and I need to be careful what I wear it with - I do think that it has the potential to be a bit mumsy. So e.g. I had it on yesterday with black skinny jeans, black ankle cowboy boots, a cream and beige striped fairly long sweater and a scarf with studs on it, and I think it looked quite good. But if I was to put it on with a patterned skirt / dress, it might look a bit frumpy. Also mine has a pattern inside the cuffs (a pale green based fabric) so if I turn the cuffs up it doesn't always match the rest of what I'm wearing - it looks as if this season's pattern is less obvious though, so that may be less of an issue.

I have one I've had for 10 years. I've worn it consistently throughout that time and I'm 29. It's a darker denim, fitted FCUK one, slightly cropped. I'm sat on my butt in a poorly haze so can't run upstairs to check but I think it's this one. I think the key is getting the fit spot on. The arms on this one aren't at all baggy so it fits almost like a shirt, and is very flattering. I'd never wear it with jeans though, I cannot commit double denim. I've mostly worn it over the years in spring and summer, over a white t and summer skirt, or a maxi dress. Something looser at the botton to complement the tightness of the jacket on top if that makes sense. If you get the right one, it'll last you years.

Oh, the stress of indecision.... It'll finish me off one day. Think I'll try Fat Face one on.

Would it count as double denim with coloured jeans....???

For me the my issue with denim jackets is that I would never wear one with jeans, as other posters have said, so for me that would be pretty limiting, as jeans are my staple trousers. On the other hand, I have a beige (slightly stretchy) jersey jacket from Zara, 22 quid in the sale, which I know I'll get loads of use this spring and summer (although there's no chance it'll fit over my boobs!)

Just in case anyone is losing sleep.... I've ordered the Boden, cotton biker jacket in pewter. I just know that if I order a denim jacket I will double denim. I won't mean to but it will happen..... I'll be rushing, DD will be complaining and I'll just pick it up without thinking. I'll realise when I'm 5 minutes too far to turn back and i'll have to spend the rest of the day in a paranoid state hiding from mumsnet S&B jury.
