Should i just avoid completely?

I have a hen night soon and need a black dress. Its going to be a 'glam' night apparently Hmm

The only one i have found i love is this

Im 30yo 5ft6 ish size 8-10 but have a bit of a belly. Spanx would obviously be a must but my belly still wouldnt be flat.

Should i just avoid?

I would. You'll be conscious of it all night.

MikeLitoris · 16/03/2013 16:36

This is my concern.

Back to the drawing board then.

BangOn · 16/03/2013 16:43

what about one of those 'mad-men'/' the hour'sort of fitted things in a less skimpy material? bit more flattering

MikeLitoris · 16/03/2013 16:49

Is that like the 50s style stuff? Not really my style.

I suppose I'll have to spend a day actually trying things on.

Black dresses are not easy to find. Well nice ones aren't anyway.

OP posts:
MikeLitoris · 16/03/2013 17:26

would this be more flattering?

Mrsrobertduvall · 16/03/2013 17:35

The reviewer says it's flattering to bulgy tums, so yes. It's very short but then you are 30. Grin

shazbean · 16/03/2013 17:37

I really like the first dress. Have you tried it on? The wrap around panels may make it less obvious.
And tums should have a bit of a curve unless you're a supermodel Wink

MikeLitoris · 16/03/2013 17:43

I'm going in to try stuff on this week. I have a pic of me on my profile have a quick look and see if you think will suit. (wont be up for long)

short isn't a problem. I do like my legs.

I prefer the look of the first one but think the second may be more flattering.

LegArmpits · 16/03/2013 17:52

I find Bodycon dresses flattering on wobbly bellies. I'd wear it and I'm older and shorter than you! :)

shazbean · 16/03/2013 17:52

I think you could easy pull it off, your figure looks great from that photo!
I actually think the second one is a bit plain but it might look different on.

bulletwithbutterflywings · 16/03/2013 17:59

I would wear the first one with spanx underneath. And I'm a size 12 with a tummy. :) All the wrappy bits will be flattering!

bulletwithbutterflywings · 16/03/2013 18:00

You could always wear a bumbag like the model if you're self conscious! Grin

freerangeeggs · 16/03/2013 18:12

I'm also 5ft 6, late twenties, size 8-10 and with a bit of a belly!! Snap ;) although I see no evidence of a belly in your pic.

I have exactly the same thoughts about bodycon, but I've seen lots of girls without flat bellies who look amazing in bodycon dresses so I'm trying to pluck up the courage myself!

That dress from topshop looks like it'd be more flattering than most. I'd try it n and see how comfy you feel. But I reckon go for it.

MikeLitoris · 16/03/2013 18:24

The belly is definitely there! I think the slouch is helping.

I've been looking for dresses for the last few weeks and that first one is the only one I have really liked.

I will report back once I make it to the shops.

OMG you are really slim-get over yourself and buy it! I am a size 16 and just bought 2 wiggle type dresses-unlike you I LOVE pin-up style clothing. Yes they cling to my huge mum tum but with shapewear and a couple of glasses of wine in me I dont give a shit! Lifes too short-make the most of your fab figure!

MikeLitoris · 16/03/2013 19:03

Thank you ashoe.

I do like the pin up style. Just not on me Grin

I've just eaten the biggest pizza ever so I had better get the max strength spanx out

CockBollocks · 16/03/2013 23:01

I think the first dress, it is much nicer than the topshop one.

Maybe with this belt belt that would detract from any bulging!!

I would try it in a size up too - I have a bodycon dress and the size up is a little more forgiving so I dont feel that my bulge is quite so 'on show'.

CockBollocks · 16/03/2013 23:02

whoops, both Topshop but I think you understood!

MikeLitoris · 17/03/2013 15:59

I guess what you meant cb

I have a child free day on wednesday so will have a try on and report back.

Beaverfeaver · 17/03/2013 19:55

My mum is 56, not slim and quite short. She will only wear body on dresses.
They look fab on her as she has big curves and they hold her in in all the right places.

My DH mates even hit on her!

It has to be good quality and not flimsy material though

holstenlips · 17/03/2013 20:24

The first one would look great. You have an amazing figure you idiot!! (in a nice way)

MikeLitoris · 17/03/2013 21:32

Tyvm holsten

beaver my mum always wears body con too. She is slightly bigger than me but i think my belly is a bi more noticable iyswim.

I shall report back on wed. I will go shopping and not come back intil I have a dress and shoes Grin

i wore body con dresses even at my biggest (size 18). so long as all your underwear is smooth so there are no odd bulges (inc back fat from wrong size bra, thank you bra intervention threads) then they look great Grin

MikeChoccyCoatedLitoris · 20/03/2013 13:57

Well, the dress looked lovely. but it is very short. I need at least size 10 and its out of stock everywhere.

I now have extremely sore feet from trekking around town all morning. I must have tried at least 50 dresses and bought none!
