Summer wardrobe

So following on from the frugal thread, how can I create a frugal wardrobe for summer?

Is it simply a matter if using what we had or their key threads to buy into to rejig a wardrobe from last year.

I have a pinafore dress that might get an outing but fancy a pair of dungarees after reading the Sunday times style mistress at weekend.

But Am sat here listening to forecast for more sleet & snow for weekend and am dreaming of hot(ter) weather!

So give me frugal inspiration for a summer wardrobe.

I have been following the frugal thread and am determined to stick with it and mend my non-frugal ways :-)
I have had a big wardrobe clearout and seem to have less clothes for summer than for the other seasons. But bearing in mind how much summer we actually get, I don't think I need loads.
The things I already have that will come out again are:
Linen Ts
White cardigan
Aqua skinny jeans
Black maxi dress
Black havaianas
Tan leather low wedge sandals

The only 2 things I intend to buy are:
Boyfriend jeans
pretty cotton top

I was looking at linen t's as I think I have most things to recycle as you say for the summer we actually get we don't need much

Where's the best place for linen t's as h&m version are woeful.

To be frank ladies, most of you don't need a true summer wardrobe. Winter lite is good enough Wink

When I returned to Northern Europe after years in hot climate, my summer clothes were absolutely redundant. Sleeveless dresses . Sandals Two merino sweaters artfully layered Long-sleeved tees Last summer we had just one day of bikini weather :(

What I suggest for summer though is having a few items in lighter colors - whites, off-whites, pastels, brights. I love a white blazer in the summer (learned to love white and khaki in the tropics). Maybe lighter/brighter denim too . And like Issimma said, you can do that also by changing accessories a bit.

The Zara linen tees are a classic. Personally I don't do linen but it's a good classic summer material.

QueenCadbury · 16/03/2013 07:49

If it's like last summer then a good waterproof!

Are the linen tees from h&m no good? I bought one a couple of weeks ago but haven't worn it yet. I didn't get on with the Zara one last year as it was a funny shape. I have seen some others online somewhere but can't remember . Maybe next or m&s?

I've got quite a few bits from last year as we went abroad on holiday so doubt I'll need much unless we happen to have a heatwave.

I stick to the same formula as in winter-neutral tops and coloured cardigans (3/4 length sleeves)' cropped jeans and then I have chinos and shorts.

I have updated last years summer wardrobe with new t's in white and pale grey-the laundered ones from Matalan which are a nice shape on[v and scoop necked].I figure these need replacing every year and so may as well be inexpensive.Khaki slouchy cargos with elasticated ankles [similar to hush ones]from Matalan.Silk t's [Reiss] in navy and cream from TK Maxx plus several silk scarves in summer brights -again from TK's.I bought several linen t's from Wrap last year and i'm not convinced they have retained their shape-so will abstain from buying more. Will wear more bright blue and white and cream in the summer-definitely no grey or black because i'm bored of it

I always seem to feel cold so have very few UK summer clothes as I rarely seem to need them. Off-hand, I think they consist of a blue and white striped maxi skirt, some short-sleeved block coloured silk/cotton tee shirts, a maxi dress, two cotton dresses (knee length, short sleeved), a couple of knee-length 50s style circle skirts and a pair of cut-offs. I wear the same cardigans and blazers all year round. And many of my other clothes also work in the summer; I just wear them with fewer layers under or over.

I quite like summer dressing here. It seems easier somehow, probably because I have less choice!

Finding things to wear abroad in the very hot, often humid and extremely conservative country in which I also spend some time is far more challenging for me.

I decided to stop think we'd had too much difference in the weather, it's much the same with a few colder weeks and a few hotter days. It helps. Find a few styles you like then add a jumper or cardigan in winter, take it off in summer.

Queencadbury - I bought one of h&m t shirts in a size small (usually a medium but given h&m sizes I went small) and it was huge!

Really low cut and baggy on me - would have needed an extra small!

chablis mine's xs. Don't remember it being baggy when I tried it on. I just want some warmer weather to wear it.

Queen Cadbury might have to try a xs ( never been xs in my life!)

Issimma-love the &otherstories pumps but very £££. If you are being frugal, and you really really need these and will fill a gap in the wardrobe - have you tried new look?

Love those Other Stories ones. Matalan ones almost identical to some Kurt Geiger ones I've just returned, but about £45 cheaper. Will check them out, thanks for linking.

A maxi dress is all you need for summer with some comfy flats!! I just need money for em :'(
