Removing freckles with IPL

I quite liked my freckles when I was younger, but now I am older, they make me look even older. Especially when accompanied by age spots, dry patches, etc. So I am looking at having them removed by IPL.

Has anybody had this done? I would be really interested in your experiences. Thanks.

I have a lot of freckles on my face as I grew up in the Southern Hemisphere and didn't use enough sunblock.

I had IPL a couple of years ago at a salon in London. It didn't really work well for me. I had 3 or 4 treatments and maybe it wasn't effective as they were quite spaced out. The sessions itself were painful (it feels like being flicked with a rubber band but in a painful way!). My face was extremely red and sore the day the treatments were done then some of my freckles became little dark burn patches which then fell off a few days later. But it didn't really seem to improve the look of my skin and didn't remove the broken capillaries I have.

I now have a dermatologist who, after examining my face, said the only thing that was likely to work for my sun damage was a chemical peel so I could consider that. He said IPL wouldn't be likely to work. I didn't question him as to why.

I reckon a good use of money would be to see a dermatologist (a medical professional) and get their advice first.
