J.Crew - sizing and shipping?

Hi - anyone purchased from the JCrew site? How long does it normally take and is it a faff with returns?
Secondly to avoid the dreaded returns, what's the sizing like?
When will they open their UK store!
Thanks

I was lucky enough to find some J Crew skinny jeans in a charity shop. Size 29 - came up a little bit tight, I'm a 28 inch waist and 36 inch hips. But they do fit well. Don't know about website - sure someone else will be along to help.

I bought a dress for my wedding from them recently. I was really happy with the service (and I love the dress). The site adds on all taxes and duties at checkout so there are no nasty import tax surprises after purchase can you tell this has happened to me with other US companies

Sizing. They've a good international sizing chart on their website. I too wanted to avoid any returns for size reasons (as opposed to style reasons - it would be such a shame if I loved the dress but got the wrong size). So I emailed their customer service and got a prompt and helpful reply back. And the size I went for worked out really well.

It took about 7 working days, I think, to arrive? Let me know if I can help with anything else.

Their sizing is pretty generous ime.

Orders can arrive very quickly - I've had stuff within 3-4 days and returns are a bit of a faff. You have to print loads of stuff off and email them but then they're collected by DHL - you do have to do them quickly though or they won't accept them.

They often have offers on so wait until there's a 20% discount code as this then sort of wipes off the customs costs.

I love their stuff - what are you contemplating ordering?

millie19 · 12/03/2013 10:51

Agree with MrsCB - returns are a bit of a hassle with DHL although i live 10mins drive from a local depot to drop off so at least i dont have to wait in all day for a courier......also i have ordered from them a couple of times and was stung the second time with an import bill by DHL so watch out. As got stung v v v badly by Emerson Fry in NYC when I ordered from them online - import bill was as big as the clothing bill! Shock my fault as I guess I thought "it would never happen to me"!! The J Crew London shop is due to open late summer I think - I am sitting typing this in one of their gorgeous wool/cashmere mix jumpers that are gorgeous, wear well and despite what the labels says, are machine washable so I'm desperate to get in their and clear the shop with jumpers and lovely summer bits! Grin
Sizing was true to size IMO for the numbered stuff (4, 6, etc) but check the measurements on each item of clothing for the S, M, L stuff etc as that seemed to differ against the others. I'm an 8-10 top and I'm wearing a size S jumper at the moment. Bottoms I always find tricky to order online anyway so can't help there, sorry.
Customer services are fab - in true American style - so use them when you order!

Sorry I just checked back
Thanks for all your replies. Not going to the US this year so will have to take a punt can't wait until they open in the summer!
To be honest I could order the whole site, colours are fab. Does anyone have a blythe blouse would love it very fitted so i don't want to get the wrong size.
Love these trousers atlantic-pacific.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/spring-forward.html

I also find the sizing massive. Customer service is really good though, and the fact that they take care of all the duties, taxes, etc is a real boon. Why not order two sizes, just in case? Returns are only a tiny bit more hassly than NAP. If you're ordering from the sale section, pay no attention to the no returns final sale warnings. They don't apply to us in the UK.

MrsCampbellBlack · 13/03/2013 18:10

I have the blythe in the old spot style and got a size 0 and its generous and I'd be a size 6 in whistles shirts or xs in equipment to compare.
