Has anyone an idea how I can stop m lips getting dry when I wear lipstick?
Could it be the pencil I put on first to fix it?
On Friday my lips were awful...flakey and horrid...help me with your words of wisdom folk

Mmm it could be some kind of additive that is irritating your lips. I use only soap and glory or cliniqe. Never buy cheaper brands as have had bad experiences. Even some lip balms irritate my lips!

It's common for lippy to dry or irritate lips.

I have a Rimmel Kate Moss lippy which I love but it makes my lips flake. I think the same goes for Bobbi Brown. Clinique is ok and so is Chanel. You could try using something like Carmex under the lippy first.

I coat my lips in vaseline every night... never have dry lips.

Stop using the lip pencil all over your lips! Use your tooth brush or flannel to gently rub off flaky bits at night and follow with lots of lip balm. A good lip primer will help your lippy to stay put. I like MAC Prep & Prime lip

MrsLettuce · 10/03/2013 19:21

yes, the mac lip primer is ace. If my lips are feeling a dry and dodgy I tend to give them a gentle scrub after brushing my teeth, pop on some savlon cream with vasline over at bed time.

I bought the Rimmel Moisture Renew having seen it recommended on here and I love it. I also use Flexitol lip balm at night and in the morning and my lips feel ok now. One of the things that really used to dry out my lips was toothpaste. I use Sensodyne now and it doesn't cause problems.

The Rimmel is better than a really expensive Chanel lippy I bought.

Thanks folks.
I use Clinique lip stick (the butter stuff) and am fine with that so was wondering if it as the pencil I have been using which is Elizabeth Arden.
I will try the MAC instead.
I use lip balm a lot and don't have an issue if I wear no make -up or thinking about it, if I use a different pencil...maybe it is the Elizabeth Arden

I have very dry lips and swear by Revlon Lip Butter too. I use MAC spice pencil underneath my lipstick. I already use flannel to buff away my flaked skin, but I still get them during the day. And flaked skin is definitely not a pretty look!

I might give the Rimmel recommended here a try too!

Found MAC lipsticks too dry btw.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 11/03/2013 10:35

Oh and I already coat my lips with vaseline every night. So it's not true that will make dry lips go away.
