All of the other ones are closed now and I still need some help!

OK no problem :) Thanks for answering! I was trying to explain it to someone today and was getting all confused with the adding/taking away of 10 and couldn't explain it properly.

Colourarc · 12/04/2013 15:33

Hi, a lurker here, looking for some intervention help!

My fave current bra is a cheapie in a 38E, but the straps dig in and the underwires don't sit flat on my chest.

So I measured today 38 50 eeek!

Thanks

StatisticallyChallenged · 12/04/2013 15:46

Erm...ok the not sitting flat isn't much of a surprise...based on your measurements you need a 38HH!

I would also try a 36 back - a lot of slightly larger ladies find they need to take a smaller back than they "measure" to get adequate support. So you will probably want to try a 36J/JJ too just to compare. There is a blog link somewhere explaining why, I will try to find it

Colourarc · 12/04/2013 15:51

Thanks for that! a little shell shocked here at the figures (excuse the pun).
I will write the sizes down and begin trawling the net/shops for some new bras!

StatisticallyChallenged · 12/04/2013 15:55

If it seems shocking, put your best bra on and try "scooping"

This is easiest standing side on to a mirror

Bra on, lean forward, put right hand inside left cup and reach right round. All the soft tissue under your armpit, above the band of the bra, below the band etc, pull that all forward in to the cup. Repeat on other side.

I suspect you will now find you have MAJOR quadraboob!

trinity0097 · 12/04/2013 16:02

Help needed! I measured 40.5 under bust and 50 at the largest point when bent over. Based on that I ordered a 40gg from bravimisso, tango balconette style.

It arrived today, band does up and seems snug but not limiting, so that's OK but I don't totally fill out the cup. The bit that touches my chest also rubbed against my skin and left a nasty red mark after just a couple of minutes of wearing it.

I also felt that the style was very matronly, can you get less matronly styles in a similar size - guessing I need to try a 40g now to solve the not filling out the cup problem??

StatisticallyChallenged · 12/04/2013 16:04

Have you scooped throughly trinity (see my prev post) My bras don't look like they fit until I do that.

Give that a go and then see how it fits and post back

trinity0097 · 12/04/2013 16:12

There was nothing to scoop, the bra is so matronly that it has encased everything in one fell swoop, but I did scoop to check and it made no difference.

I can get about 2 or 3 finger height of space between the top 'rim' of the bra and my boob!

trinity0097 · 12/04/2013 16:16

I am wondering whether I should bite the bullet and get train tickets to go to London on Sunday and go to the bravimisso store so that I don't have to do the whole buy something return it order a different size etc..

Colourarc · 12/04/2013 16:17

I've just looked at the Bravissimo site, chosen the Charlotte soft cup and am popping in to the Covent Garden Store tomorrow lunchtime before I go to work so I may be posting from work about my bra epiphany!

fingers crossed

StatisticallyChallenged · 12/04/2013 16:25

It could be worthwhile trinity - it does sound like that is too big in the cup but it also sounds like it's not the right style for you. Whilst larger cup size bras do tend to be a bit more full coverage some take it a bit too far! It sounds like in that particular bra you need to go down at least one possibly two cups but it may well not be representative

Colourarc are you breastfeeding at the mo (hence the softcup?)

Colourarc · 12/04/2013 16:34

No, are they feeding bras?
I typed in sizes and browsed what they had, was thinking it would be a good day to day bra.
been looking again and like the Lauren too, more my style, I have a lot of low neckline tops!

StatisticallyChallenged · 12/04/2013 16:43

The problem is, wireless bras just don't offer the same support to a large bust. You'd probably be better off with a wired bra.

The advantage of going to Bravissimo is that you can try on a variety of bras. Different breast shapes suit different bras and quite often the ones you think look lovely don't suit your boob shape and vica versa.

For low cut the Bravissimo Satine is quite nice

Colourarc · 12/04/2013 16:48

I've noted that one, I have a list of about 4 styles now, I just can't bear fussy flowery stuff! (never have done).

Thanks for the help, Got to get ready for work now, so I will report back tomorrow!

MrsWildermac · 12/04/2013 17:53

Can I appeal for some help please?! Trying to find a maternity/nursing bra that fits, is supportive and isn't so matronly that any remaining self esteem is sapped away completely...

Ventured into debenhams where lady eyeballed me, then checked with measuring tape and told me I was a 38E, and proceeded to squish me into medical looking bras that turned my boobs into sausages that seemed to sit nearer my neck than anywhere natural.

Measuring as per Stats instructions, measuring 37 45...what bra should I buy...I hate non-underwires...is it ok to wear an underwire bra when pregnant/breastfeeding?

Any help much appreciated...Thanks

OneLittleLady · 12/04/2013 17:55

I don't know how to size you myself but in regards to the underwires, I have been told and have read that wires are fine when pregnant/breastfeeding as long as the bra fits properly and the wires aren't resting on any actual breast tissue.

sparkle12mar08 · 12/04/2013 18:08

MrsWildermac, try a 36G & GG, and 38FF & G to start with. Properly fitting underwires are fine, but do be sure they are fitting well.

StatisticallyChallenged · 12/04/2013 18:23

Absolutely fine to wear a wired bra so long as it fits. There are even some underwired feeding bras around (Anita do them and so do Ewa Michalak I think) or if you are handy with a needle you can convert normal bras. The risk is if the bra doesn't fit and the wire is sitting on breast so make sure you know what a good bra looks like.

Size wise I'd start by trying a 36FF, 36G, 38FF and 38F. However from what you have said about how squished the 38e was I'd say it's more likely going to be the 38FF or 36G. Don't be scared to try bigger if necessary (cup wise!)

MrsWildermac · 12/04/2013 19:20

Thanks very much...heading into town tomorrow, so will go armed with your advice and keep trying things on until something feels/looks right. Thanks again!

SorrelForbes · 13/04/2013 09:12

Interesting blog entry here about the shape that you can get from Polish bras.

YoniBottsBumgina · 13/04/2013 09:22

That is interesting. Is that because they're fitted better there or because of the actual shape?

SorrelForbes · 13/04/2013 09:28

The construction I think. I have two EM CH shapes and honestly the lift and shape is like nothing I've ever seen before. I've just placed an order with Comexim and hopefully they'll have a similar effect.

Once I'd discovered EM I actually sold all my Freya's as they just didn't look right anymore. I know SC felt the same!

StatisticallyChallenged · 13/04/2013 09:30

I think they are a different shape as a rule - the cut is quite different. I have a few Ewa M bras and I think they are particularly good for full on top boobs as they use a much more open construction at the top of the cup than many UK bras.

It really depends on what you are wearing/looking for too. For example I love something like my BRavissimo Betsy Bow under higher necklines or skater type dresses as it gives me a wider, almost slightly retro breast shape which is quite flattering. But if I am wearing something slightly lower or a more straight fitting dress then the Ewas can look amazing

YoniBottsBumgina · 13/04/2013 09:56

See I never wear a bra as I'm just too small and it seems such a hassle. But all of this talk about different shapes etc is making me want to try again Grin

StatisticallyChallenged · 13/04/2013 10:20

I can only imagine my colleagues reaction if I turned up at work with the 30HHs flying free...
