All of the other ones are closed now and I still need some help!

Autumn That's right. The A will gape as its so loose in the band. It may have enough volume in the cup but its too far away from you to sit right. Imagine putting on a bra in a size 14-16 rather than the 10-12 that you are- that's the difference.

marriednotdead · 09/04/2013 21:57

Oops, x post with SC Smile

Silverstar2 · 10/04/2013 12:42

Thanks againMND - so you think I should stay away from full cups, as the ones you have recommended are balcony or plunge styles?

I don't think my boobs are wider than my shoulders, and I don't have problems with straps falling down - although with some balcony styles I find the straps irratate the side of my arms iykwim as they are almost too wide.

marriednotdead · 10/04/2013 12:51

It sounds as if the distance between the base of your boobs and your armpit is quite short, so the sides of the straps chafe on the skin/migrated boob by your armpit. The Belle straps are more central so shouldn't catch there, and the other styles I mentioned have shorter wider wires which shouldn't dig.
I have similar rubbing issues and find that the Deco and Elodie work well for me, but without seeing you, I can't tell exactly what would work best.

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/04/2013 15:23

Another intervention performed - visited a pregnant friend (early pregnancy) who mentioned her boobs having gone up 2 cup sizes and mentioned she is normally a 32 or 34B and is now a D. Asked the inevitable question - M&S fitted her in a 34D.

This girl is TINY. Really really petite - she is a size 6-8.

I seriously despair - if they think she is a 34 who the hell do they think actually needs the 28s and 30s that they sell??!?!

Told her gently that M&S are useless and that I wear a 30. She just about fell over. Thankfully we have a Bravissimo locally so she is going to go get refitted.

BeebiesQueen · 10/04/2013 15:35

Reading this reminds me I need to sort out my bra size. I got properly fitted when dd2 was around 6 months old and went from 38d to 30e.

But now the back size feels tights an the cups seem too big and I no longer have that lovely shape I had 8 months ago.

I need to find a shop locally that has decent sized bras an go and try loads on in a 30 back until its right again

Autumn12 · 10/04/2013 16:50

I'm noticing that in a lot of places bra band sizes start at 34. Does it still work that you size down a cup if you have to size up a band?
i.e. I usually wore a 36A, but sometimes would get a 34B and it would fit (well as much as the 36A ever really did).

SorrelForbes · 10/04/2013 17:10

Autumn12 Not really because if the band size is too big the support just isn't going to be there at all.

What are your measurements?

ShootingStarsss · 10/04/2013 17:15

Wow great thread, anyone help us please me, mum & a friend.

Me - 32 under and 39 over
Mum - 36 under and 41 over
Friend - 38 under and 47 over

What size bras should we be wearing please?

ShootingStarsss · 10/04/2013 17:16

Sorry should have put friend is 39 under should she be wearing 38 or 40?

SorrelForbes · 10/04/2013 17:19

OK, start with these sizes and similar sizes:

You- try 32F
Mum - try 36DD
Friend - try 38G, 38FF, 40FF, 40F (I would expect the 38 to be a better fit).

Make sure you sort the band first as per the blog guidance. Happy bra shopping.

ShootingStarsss · 10/04/2013 17:22

Thanks sorrell can't wait to go shopping I am currently in a dd Shock no wonder it feels awful and I can't wait to take it off!

OneLittleLady · 10/04/2013 17:24

Asking questions again so here goes. Is it normal to be different sizes in different brands? I'm finding that in some brands the 36E fits best, in others 34F is much better and in then in others, the best fit is 34E. Is it common for there to be such a difference between brands?

Silverstar2 · 10/04/2013 17:48

ok MND the belle may work - I am a 34GG/H, although I have started to notice I can do my 34's up on the middle hook after a few weeks - so what size should I try? Will have to order - maybe a 34g, and chance a 32 - something? How does the band come up?

trinity0097 · 10/04/2013 17:52

After reading some posts about bras I have taken the plunge and ordered one in size 40gg, I was wearing a 48d, more by trial and error than anything else, but have lost quite a bit of weight so it was time to get bras sorted (dropped from a size 26 to a 18/20).

Does anyone know if evans h cup is like a gg cup elsewhere? They don't seem to have gg and go straight to h from g?

sparkle12mar08 · 10/04/2013 17:59

OneLittleLady - sadly yes! I'm variously a 28H, 28HH, 30GG, 30H and 32G across different brands and styles Shock Some run very small in the back (eg Debenhams Gorgeous range) some run big in the back and small in the cup (Curvy Kate padded half cup styles), some run about normal (Curvy Kate unpadded balconettes). Bravissimo seem generally true to size but have insanely wide wires that end up actually behind my armpit, some like Fantasie I think it is have narrower wires and central gore (yay!) but very high side wires (boo!).

Bra shopping is worse than jeans shopping, and that's saying something!

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/04/2013 18:25

Totally normal OneLittleLady. Your bra "size" is only really a starting point - very much like buying jeans!

marriednotdead · 10/04/2013 19:15

Silverstar2 Belle is big all over. Try 34GG and 32GG or H.

Silverstar2 · 10/04/2013 19:38

ok :-)

Autumn12 · 10/04/2013 21:40

Sorrell my measurements are 31.5 under bust 36 at fullest part.

weasle · 10/04/2013 22:52

Hello, I need bra help please! I've lost lots of weight after finishing 7 yrs of almost continuous pg and bf and 3dc. Boobs almost totally vanished from 36e! My pre-pg bras are ok, 34b but do ride up at the back and I know I need smaller back.
I am 30 or 31.5 inches under busy depending on if I'm in/exhaling. Over is 33-34. size 10/12.
I've been to rigby and peller and they fitted me in a 32c but they looked awful as the under arm bulge was dreadful. I certainly wasn't going to pay £60 for any of those bras! Fitter said that was normal and how it should look.
I went to m and s and tried on a 32c and band horribly tight and cups small?? And under arm bulge.
I can't see me tolerating a 30 band. How do you cope with the chest in a vice feeling?! 32 was bad enough.
Should i be trying Balcony to try and lift?
Bravissimo only start at D and I went yesterday but it was too busy to be seen and I'm unlikely to fit their sizes.
Where else measures well?
Thanks!

Sorry, stupid phone didn't say post had loaded.

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/04/2013 23:02

autumn12 start by trying 32d and 32dd

weasle based on measurements a 30C/D however, I think you may be someone who "measures" a smaller cup than they need. If the 32C was too small in the cup (which it sounds) then you probably need to be trying a 30DD at least (which is one cup size bigger). The underarm bulge should be contained in the bra.

Id be pretty tempted to try Bravissimo again - even if you are actually a C they will be able to tell that pretty accurately (as it's only one cup below what they sell anyway)
