All of the other ones are closed now and I still need some help!

Could anyone help my mum out, she's been a 34A since I can remember. My guess was a 30C/D. Well she's finally measured herself after admitting her bras have never been comfy and she's 29 under and 33 over.

My thinking is 28DD but please can someone put me right. She's very small framed (5' 2" and a size 8-10) but broad across the back. She's quite scared about the fact that she'll most probably have to order that kind of band size online. She's 70 and can't get on with online shopping, prefers to see things in the shop first! She also hates underwiring and will NEVER be convinced of it!

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/03/2013 11:45

She probably hates underwires because she's been wearing the wrong size for a long time. Badly fitting underwires hurt like buggery!

Size wise - she would be somewhere in the range of 28D/DD or 30C/D. Best bet is to try a big department store - somewhere like Debenhams - so she can see what fits. But I would probably keep her away from the fitters. 28s can be a bit trickier but if you can at least find the 30s for her to try you will be able to work out if the 28 or 30 is best, and which cup (so if a 30D is good cup wise but loose in the back then go to the 28dd)

GoingVerySlowlyMad · 26/03/2013 12:25

Thanks SC! I have checked and they do 30C's and D's in her beloved John Lewis and M&S so will get her to go and have a look. She has been plagued by mastitis over the years so is very mistrusting when it comes to bras!

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/03/2013 13:19

My understanding is that (among many things) bad underwires can actually cause or at least exacerbate mastitis. The important thing to check is that the wire is completely encasing the breast tissue - not resting on it. It's where most people go wrong - see this image for BAD example here

Right, well my delivery of the Fantasie Rebecca and the Bravissimo Alana has arrived and I am keeping both. (please dont let me work out how much I have spent on Bras in the past fortnight. Shock.) I can see that the Alana is going to be my standard choice of bra which is a good thing as there are lots of colours. It seems to come a lot less far up under the armpit than the Elodie as well as not have the very strong side support wire. I think that is where the problem lies with the Elodie. Plus me wearing it too much of course.

With the Rebecca which I have on now, it seems to have a cup that comes much further back and therefore also misses the problem spot. It is so comfortable, I had to keep it. Hope it stays that way.

Could you confirm that this sounds like sense please statistically? I am going to go back to wearing the Elodie for short periods when the bruise has gone and maybe not for work all day! Hopefully it will eventually become ok? Thanks so much for giving us all the encouragement with this bra trouble!

GoingVerySlowlyMad · 26/03/2013 14:15

Just had a try again to convince her about trying underwire but seriously it is a no go. My line was "it will give you uplift and stop them looking droopy". I got "I'm bloody 70, people expect a bit of droop!"

Head and brick wall anyone!!!! Grin

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/03/2013 14:25

Try "it makes your waist look smaller" ?

Springy that does make sense - there are numerous bras which "fit" but which I can't wear for whatever reason. I'm getting better at spotting them but sometimes they do make it in to my drawer before I do. It is useful to alternate between bras with different shapes though from a lack of pain perspective

Silverstar2 · 26/03/2013 16:23

Ah yes the Elodie side supports - just sent mine back today, as those side supports were so, well supportive, I could hardly move for the digging in and the pain.

I probably wouldn't have kept it anyway, as the shape/style did nothing for me.

I am happy enough with my Cleo Juna and Darcy - but still pine after the Andorra - the Cleos are nice and comfy, but don't give as much uplift and shape as the Andorra, but the pain! Just couldn't stand it. I stiill don't think I have totally got it right- I still get under arm fat, but the lady in Bravissimo said I would always have some..........

SpringyReframed · 26/03/2013 16:46

Silverstar, did you call Bravissimo and ask if you could send the Elodie back having worn it? I'm now wondering if I should just give it up as a bad job, particularly as I now think the Alana is going be my favourite. I could get another of those rather than harbour the instrument of torture!

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/03/2013 17:01

Springy if it was fitted for you at Bravissimo definitely phone them. They are very good at taking back bras post fitting if they aren't right.

Silverstar2 · 26/03/2013 17:02

I got it from Uplifted Lingerie, sent it back today. I also have the Fantasie Kara, which is similar, but as it gives me a better shape - and I got it off ebay for a tenner - I kept it, and only wear it for short periods - the pain is huge, but worth the shape!

SpringyReframed · 26/03/2013 20:55

Ok, thanks, will call them tomorrow.

ScarletLady02 · 27/03/2013 07:47

Hi, I'm looking for help for a friend. She's given me her measurements as 35" underbust and 44" over - any ideas? She's having a lot of pain etc from having large boobs to the point she's considering a breast reduction, and I thought maybe having a properly fitting bra might help. She's wearing a 38FF which seems wrong to me and said that she's been fitted 6 times in the last year and given a different size each time.

Any help appreciated Smile

CelticPromise · 27/03/2013 08:54

34GG for starters Scarlet. She won't be getting any support from a 38 band.

CooEeeEldridge · 27/03/2013 09:48

Hi, I had the bra revelation from an earlier thread and now am a comfortable 32C from wearing 34b previously. I came to the 34b from the old school measuring back in the day. My question is, I've seen a nice sports bra from m&s and I don't know what size to order??! Annoyingly it's the only one I like, I'm treating myself to a pretty one for fun runs etc.. Could someone advise please??? If not will order a few and take back!!

pinkbraces · 27/03/2013 10:37

Hi everyone, im very late to these threads, but need help. Can someone tell me how to work out my size.

thanks

HellesBelles396 · 27/03/2013 13:39

Could I ask about sports bras please? is there such a thing as a sports bra that is very supportive (i like zero movement when I run walk briskly) but doesn't squish breasts totally flat?

ScarletLady02 · 27/03/2013 14:02

Thanks Celtic - I thought that a better fitting bra might really help, I'll pass that on to her.

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/03/2013 14:58

HellesBelles you probably want to try one of the underwired sports bras (freya do one) rather than a non-wired. The non-wired generally work by compression (strap em down!) where as the wired don't do the same extent. They make you a little pointy but I prefer them. My 30HHs stay but while i wheeze faint jog!

HellesBelles396 · 27/03/2013 15:24

thanks sc

HellesBelles396 · 27/03/2013 15:47

was it soft cup, moulded or moulded racer back?

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/03/2013 16:08

this one although I have it in nude. There are various colours listed in figleaves.

Hanginggardenofboobylon · 27/03/2013 18:06

I've got a moulded underwired Panache sports bra. It's the red white and blue one, its very supportive.

AmazingDisgrace · 27/03/2013 21:33

Once again, a bra in a specific colour (Panache Rhea in mulberry) that I can't find in my size anywhere is in stock and reduced at Simply Be Hmm Do I dare?

Also what's the fitting like in the Rhea? Will it work for me like the Lucia half cup?

blackteaplease · 28/03/2013 12:08

Ok. ordered 30gg and 32g. The 30 fits in the band but the cups are far too big . They gape at the side and i don't fill the top of the cup
