North Face Arctic Parka - will I regret buying?

NuclearStandoff · 06/03/2013 20:54

Should not be spending any money at moment, as I am unemployed.

But having shivered all winter, decided that I really need a warm and practical coat for walking dog and watching ds play sport.

It was reduced hugely in the sale, and I know I probably won't wear it until next winter now - but I hope it could last 10 years... and it even comes with a 2 year guarantee.

Please tell me I haven't made an expensive mistake?

You can just popper up around bump Grin

thenightsky · 07/03/2013 22:12

Why does the car ad say its a rover when its clearly an Astra? Confused I do hope it is an Astra... I had a Rover and it was the shitest of shit cars I've ever had the misfortune to own.

So is the Medium parka a 12 would you say? I can only see small left now Sad

lucidlady · 07/03/2013 22:32

Love love love mine. Best coat purchase ever!

MrsKoala · 07/03/2013 22:44

It is an Astra :) The guy sold a Rover and then piggy backed a new ad onto the original one! Our car which just died is a Rover 25, but wasn't too bad - it was very old when it died.

Right, that's it i'm ordering the brown in Large. :)

LarkinSky · 07/03/2013 22:44

Ditto I love my black arctic parka, best clothing buy ever and worth every penny. Has withstood monsoon style rain, seriously low dog walking temps and even alpine skiing. Great pockets, fitted so flattering and it's not very heavy either. I'm a 12 and the medium fits me great with room to spare.

MrsMargoLeadbetter · 07/03/2013 22:50

Sorry to hijack, but my husband who is 6ft 3 and is v thin is looking for a long parka like the one in this thread but a male version.

Checked the link and the men's coats on that site aren't really long enough.

Anyone know what brands to look for?

Thanks and sorry again for hijacking.

MrsMills · 08/03/2013 07:15

MrsMargoLeadbetter - have you looked at Canada Goose? Bit more £££££ but will last a million years and is SUPER warm.
www.canada-goose.com/products-page/arctic/westmount-parka

Warning though - the fur trim is real fur (coyote) if that's a problem for you you can find non furry coats.

MrsMills · 08/03/2013 07:18

Should add DH is similar build to yours and wear the expedition parka in deep winter.

MrsMargoLeadbetter · 08/03/2013 08:29

Oooh thanks MrsMills will look into those. Did your DH get once in the UK or are you in Canada?

Maraki · 08/03/2013 08:41

Does the North Face arctic parka shed feathers after a few washes?

I have a down filled coat which after a few washes, is shedding feathers which really do show on any thing dark that I am wearing.

MrsMills · 08/03/2013 08:47

We are in Sweden, bought it here when he realised his regular winter coat was next to useless here. I would advise he tries them on for size/arm length and weight, not for the weak iykwim!

snoworneahva · 08/03/2013 13:38

Have only washed my coat once in 2 winters - no noticeable down loss.

rubytutu · 08/03/2013 14:32

have not actually washed mine yet despite wearing it every school day since OctoberGrin must buy some tennis balls.

LarkinSky · 08/03/2013 20:07

Haven't washed my coat in two years - I wipe it with baby wipes. I thought it might never need washing - is that grim?

AlisonMoyet · 10/03/2013 17:00

I need sizing advice on north face attic. Am busty size 12. Large ?

Gingefringe · 10/03/2013 19:01

I've just looked at the North Face website and they're not reduced. Do you have a different link anyone? that doesn't involve cars.

Shattereddreams · 10/03/2013 19:17

Alisonmoyet
I'm 12 and busty 32FF and wear M totally big enough

WannaSplitAPineapple · 10/03/2013 19:49

I love mine, it's like wearing a quilt outside! I've been stranded at the train station for an hour today just wearing a thin dress underneath. Everyone else was complaining they were freezing but I was lovely and toasty. I was a bit Shock about paying so much for a coat but its the best purchase I've made.

AlisonMoyet · 10/03/2013 19:58

Thanks shattered. After almost weeping with cold today in an old lands end one I've put my foot down. H just ordered. Dunno what site.

NB be doesn't normally buy my clothes!!

AlisonMoyet · 10/03/2013 19:59

Oh and you wanna.

I hope the skirts not too flarey

GoldenHares · 10/03/2013 20:00

One of the best things I've ever bought. The first winter I've not been cold.

Shattereddreams · 10/03/2013 20:12

Alisonmoyet that's why I bought mine. It was three winters ago, we had so much snow. Even in London. I was pregnant, with terrible SPD and could only walk at a snail pace. My winter coat was a wool double breasted affair. I was frozen to the bone for about 5 months. I couldn't walk fast enough to heat up.

I vowed to myself I would never again wear a wool coat or be cold on my commute ever again. Trouble is, sometimes when I get on the train, after my march, I am sweltering.

AlisonMoyet · 10/03/2013 20:23

Flaredy skirt bit?

nogoodusernamesleft · 10/03/2013 20:29

Just to say that the Surfdome website had reduced North Face ( and others) jackets in their sale when I looked this morning. Hope this helps someone!

noddyholder · 10/03/2013 20:31

They are quite roomy. I tried a few as I bought ds one for xmas and was in teh shop and M is fine
