Help! 8 yo getting spots!

My 8 yo dd is getting the occasional spot on her forehead. They are usually little whiteheads that go on their own but a couple have been quite red and she is quite conscious of them. She seems to have a couple of little blackheads/blocked pores too.

At the moment she just uses a flannel and soap to wash her face. I don't want to start putting very harsh stuff onto her skin but I would also like to find something to help as I don't want her to suffer with skin/self esteem issues years before her friends!

Any recommendations for gentle stuff I can use on her face? I wasn't expecting to have to deal with this for a few years and am totally unprepared! Grin

Will be watching with interest as DD1 also 8 has a persistant one on her chin which she is getting self conscious about.

It's rotten isn't it? I don't want to make a big fuss about it because that will make dd more conscious of it, but at the same time I would like to put a solution in place before someone decides to say something unpleasant to her.

DD had this and we just used some of dss's facewash that we had. It cleared up pretty quickly and hasn't come back. If it does, I will go to Neal's Yard and get a more natural (and very gentle) facewash.

The hormones definitely kick in at 8 for a lot of girls from what I observe about the girls in dd's class.

I wouldn't ever use soap on the face on anyone - try just using warm water and a flannel and see if it helps.

I've tried just using water but she usually gets soap/body wash on her flannel when she is in the bath which doesn't help.

I have bought some very gentle SLS etc free face wash from Boots and will get her to use that for a little while. I think part of the problem is that she does a sport that she needs to use a foam headguard for and her forehead gets very sweaty. She also has quite olive skin unlike me so I think it will be slightly more prone to getting blocked pores.

Will persevere, thanks for the suggestions so far!

my ds is a dancer and got lots of spots after a session we got him some gentle face wipes so he can do a quick wipe roind his face after a session to clean away the worst of the grime and sweat then he uses a face wash every morning and night. a dab of sudocream works wonders overnight on a red spot.

That's a really good idea, thanks! I will get some wipes too.

Had also forgotten about the many uses of sudacream!
