i wear suits at the moment but its not obligatory; I would like to have a change and thinking about dresses or even smart shirt/trousers. I need to lose some weight and thought of new wardrobe good motivation!
Where should I look when the time comes? I nearly always end up in Next/ M & S/ Debs. Any other ideas?

See, I have ended up back in suits as its just so much easier but I am pretty boring really. I had high hopes for a wrap dress but dresses really don't suit me (large or arse, tum and nork!) ...

So I shall watch this too careergirl -!

I wear a lot of dresses to work, mainly from M&S, Jigsaw, Hobbs, Whistles etc. I think they are easier than suits and can be dressed up or down with accessories easily. I still wear a suit at times but think dresses can be just as smart.

GoOnDoOne · 02/03/2013 20:12

I wear a lot of COS to work. Some of it's a bit bonkers but it's excellent quality and the black stuff stays black. And the black trousers keep their shape. Not cheap but not radically pricey either.

Olivermoliver · 02/03/2013 20:24

I have started to wear more dresses lately and pair with either a cardigan for a more casual look or blazer if I need to be smarter. Have some from Next, Oasis, H & M and got a really nice navy one this week from Boden (!) which is a first for me!

PenelopePisstop · 02/03/2013 20:28

I always wore suits (trouser) but find I am wearing dresses more. Definately easier to wear and more comfotable. Have bought mostly M&S, Next and local boutique. Just bought a fab navy one from M&S, I felt great in it (always a bonus) and got some compliments (even better). I have just ordered it in green. Watching this thread to get more dress ideas.

careergirl · 02/03/2013 20:35

Hard isn't it? The suits are a bit like school uniform its just so easy but..
I need to lose this weight first - got a stone to shift - but thinking of new things will keep me going
I've been on the net having a browse and seen quite a few pretty tops in Per Una so thinking nice top/ smart trouser combination to (hopefully!) show off the new figure!!

I am attempting a link for the first time. This is my navy M&S dress, it really does look great on.

I live in wrap dresses at work, although I may have to rethink this as my dress came undone while I was walking down the corridor the other and I nearly flashed the caretaker. Blush

blondieminx · 02/03/2013 21:18

I wear a lot of dresses too Smile

Also like a pencil skirt with a nice fine knit and fierce shoes.

Bluelightsandsirens · 02/03/2013 21:20

That is a very nice dress Pen

suebfg · 02/03/2013 21:26

I second M&S dresses too. They are easy to wash and there are some great versatile styles

HollaAtMeBaby · 02/03/2013 21:27

I like Cos, Zara (although quality is hit and miss and most of the staff are BITCHES), Reiss (sales!) and Banana Republic (ditto!) for workwear.

Chubfuddler · 02/03/2013 21:31

Boden, banana republic, Great Plains, Hobbs, m. & s and phase eight dresses all in my work wardrobe. And that ruched me & em one that was big on MN last year.

I always wear dresses to work unless in court (rare). They're just so easy - no worrying are both skirt and jacket clean, what too to wear under - just pull on. Outfit done.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/03/2013 21:40

I wear a lot of pencil skirts (M&S has the v occasional great one) with plain t-shirts, cropped blazers and killer heels.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 02/03/2013 22:02

I've given up wearing suits most of the time. I wear dresses and trousers/plain tshirts mostly and heels.

I like Massimo Dutti, Great Plains, Zara and Damsel in a Dress.

careergirl · 02/03/2013 23:47

M & S have some gorgeous dresses in, at the minute, I've seen lots I like which would be lovely for work

I only wear dresses or skirts for work. My favourite places are Reis, Banana Republic, Hobbs and recently I got one from French Connection which has been a great success. I have an hourglass figure btw

Wrigglytummy · 03/03/2013 07:49

Great thread, I'm struggling in this area too. I love smart black crop trousers with shirts or fine knits & a jacket.
I have been looking for a pencil skirt (M&S level budget!), can anyone recommend one?
