any lush henna experts about?

I dyed my hair on Saturday with half caca brun and half caca marron - but it has come out very red on my greys at the front. ( I even did a strand test, which I never normally bother with)

If I re-do it with caca brun or a mix of caca noir and caca brun - what will happen?!

It should come out a lot darker. What shade were you aiming for? I have a fair few greys (I was contemplating going grey but chickened out!) and my hair always goes redder than expected so I stick to the caca brun and only occasionally mix in a bit of red.

I'd ask at the lush shop..they are always very happy to chat! But a decent length of soaking in caca brun should darken it nicely:)

Henna deepens quite a lot after a few days, the light hair around my temples tends to go bright orange for the first few days, then deepens into auburn.

I would suggest looking up one of the henna for hair forums, lots of experts on there.

How long did you leave it on for?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 25/02/2013 19:51

I do half brun half marron but only have isolated greys, they come out gold. I would go with brun, I think noir is very dark indeed, never dared try it.

Levantine · 25/02/2013 21:08

I left it on for about four hours I think. I love the shine and most of the colour, it's just too orange at the front. I think I'll just re-do it in caca brun. Could it look overdyed iyswim? Too dark?

I would leave it, it should fade nicely. Just shampoo thoroughly every day and it will mellow.

ThreeBeeOneGee · 25/02/2013 21:13

I used to use Caca Marron but found that my Greta were coming up too orange. The Caca Brun gives a much subtler brown on the greys. Have never tried the Noir.

AgathaF · 26/02/2013 09:31

I won't look too dark or over dyed. I would be tempted to put on exactly what you used before, or just the brun.

I use 2/3 marron and 1/3 noir (it's sitting taking on my head currently Grin) and it's not too dark at all, but I find that the noir just calms the redness and gives it more 'depth'.

I put caca brun on again yesterday - it is less orangey now - but still looks a bit unnatural. Might do it again at the weekend

Thanks for the update Lavantime, hopefully third time lucky at the weekend.

Agatha - I'm going to try the 1/3 noir 2/3 marron combination next time I buy some I think.

AgathaF · 28/02/2013 13:40

WhoKnows - ooh I hope it works well for you. I've played around with various different combinations and that is definitely my favourite.

gracelesslady · 28/02/2013 19:54

I'm a pure marron girl and it comes out chestnutty, with my grey hairs quite red, but I've not got that many so it looks ok. Not too startling. Were you blonde or brunette to begin with? It took me a few weeks to get used to the colour originally but I also think the oranginess eased off a lot after a week or two of sort of settling. I think all of lush's hennas have indigo in, which takes several days to deepen fully, and will make your hair darker than it is immediately after you use it.

orangepudding · 28/02/2013 19:57

How long does the colour last? I did mine a few weeks ago and thought it would have faded by now!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/02/2013 19:58

Pure marron comes out too reddish for me (my hair is dull dark brown naturally), brun on it's own doesn't make enough difference to be worth it (although does give a bit of gloss and depth). I walked past Lush today, should have gone and bought some Noir but I forgot.

AgathaF · 28/02/2013 21:17

orangepudding I found that the first 2 or 3 months using it, the colour faded a little, but lasted easily a month - until my (grey) roots grew out really. I think it faded initially because I had been using regular hair dye so that was on my hair underneath the henna. The last year or so though, it doesn't fade at all, so I just do it again when my roots show.

Claudiamcdonald · 08/10/2019 17:29

I have grey roots and dark hair. I put brun on my hair and it went orange. With out the rouge henna it goes orange. I then put marron on top of my hair and my hair has turned a auburn colour. I want to henna my hair noir and brun three inches over my routes so my hair will be to different colours.
At the moment I use cactus oil on the roots and L'Oreal burgundy root spray to darken my orange roots.
I have been experimenting with my hair for a couple of months.
Any advise to get the wright shade for my roots?
