I made my own lovely beauty product today and it's better than my £35 usual one!

< I'll be weaving my own sanitary towels next Grin >

Anyway, I'm a product junkie and love high end stuff. I use Laura Mercier Sugar Scrub in the shower as a rule but today was grabbed by the urge to make my own. So, I did... and it was better!

In case anyone is the slightest bit interested I used the following ingredients..

Organic brown sugar
Tablespoon of organic rock salt
Couple of glugs of extra virgin olive oil
Enough food grade coconut oil to get it to the consistency I wanted < £6.99 from Waitrose >

I popped it all in a glass kilner jar and mixed well. Estimated cost about four quid and I promise you, it was better that my usual Laura Mercier one in terms of how it has left my skin feeling. I managed to get the consistency almost identical to the LM one as well.

Anyway, just thought i'd share!

Sounds very good - and presumeably you could put a drop of essential oil in too, if you wanted a particular scent?

Maybe you should make it for christmas presents this year?

ApplyYourself · 24/02/2013 17:09

Oh God no... my mother would be horrified Grin I am NOT creative!

Yes, you can add anything. I wanted mine to be natural and as close to the LM one as i could manage... this was tricky in terms of packaging and creme brulee smell, have to say, but spot on in consistency and how my skin now feels

Well done, I've seen this on Pinterest, but never actually gotten around to it myself!

TitHead · 24/02/2013 18:15

Ohh thank you I will make a few of those for my christmas hampers this year.

Pendipidy · 24/02/2013 18:18

I make all of my own face cream, body scrub , nail oils etc with essential oils added. Easy, quite cheap and just as good.

oliviafrombolivia · 24/02/2013 19:16

I tried this and blocked up the shower with it..

Hetaera · 24/02/2013 19:48

I'm going to make this! I plan to add a drop of vanilla essence (cheapo) to get a vaguely creme brulee smell. Excited now Grin

Didn't it leave your bath an oil slick? That stuff can't be good for the pipes/drains.

ApplyYourself · 24/02/2013 23:18

No my bath was just fine and no blocking anywhere from what I could see. It was no thicker/different to a shop bought one costing £££ and they have never caused any blocking issues in all the years I've been using them.

Yes give it a go Hetaera - just make a small batch, use really simple but organic ingredients and you'll be surprised. My skin still feels amazing from earlier!
