Best SLS-free shampoo?

I have horrible eczema on my scalp which I'm told might improve if I use SLS-free shampoo. Have been trying the Body Shop one but am finding my hair is really really static,which it never was before. Also, because of the absence of foaming agent, I can never really tell if it's properly 'cleaned' IYKWIM.

Please tell me some other makes of good SLS-free shampoo and also your tips on how much to use, how many washes etc.

Liz earle is really good but pricy! See if you can buy on qvc and then you can return if it doesn't suit!

The Naked shampoos foam well. You can get it from Boots.

Look expensive, but you use a teeny amount - so it lasts a long time. Just don't leave it out for everyone else to use liberally.

I have tried a lot and many expensive ones, but the clear winner for me is 'Happy Hair Days' which you can get from Sainbos. The ginger one is gorgeous.

Also -Happy Hair Days - range of shampoo and conditioners.

Not totally yukky free, but are paraben and SLS free at least.

Can buy in Sainsburys for £3.99 each or two for £5 at the moment.

Thanks all. I haven't seen the Naked ones in our Boots and it is quite a big branch. Will look for the Sainsbos stuff. Liz Earle I did try a tester of and liked but a bit expensive for everyday use.

that is really really strange. since stopping sls shampoo my hair has gone crazily static too ...thought i'd maybe upped my unnatural fibre clothing ! i too have eczema scalp and for me, naked from boots was a disaster. as is the fairly expensive organix coconut shampoo. both left my itchy and flaky. happy hair days was ok. There is a lovely mn blogger yumetc who reviews all things natural.

I too have this problem and have had for many years. I have tried green people, naked, Liz Earle, boots own sensitive scalp, Aveda scalp benefits, eucerin, Aloe Vera... you name it. Plus coal tar ones etc. I have read about people having great results after one wash but none of them have worked for me! At the moment I am trying using bicarbonate of soda and apple cider vinegar instead as just so fed up and willing to try anything! Too early to tell if it's working though, as have only tried it twice so far!

Yes, I second the vote for the Argania stuff from Boots. It's great.

Is the Argania stuff SLS free? It doesn't seem to say either way on Boots' website .

I really like the Dr Organic range too, I'm working through all the different ones. I started this after reading threads about curly girl haircare and found the eczema on my hands improved a lot too, once I stopped using liquid soap it cleared up almost completely (although recently I have tried Dr Organic handwash which is fine for my hands too).

DGJ organics shampoo & conditioner from Waitrose. Had to start using DGJ Berutti oil as well, though, as the conditioner doesn't seem to condition that much.

I use the "glossy brunette" ones. The shampoo foams nicely, my hair is glossy and my scalp is not too dry (I have eczema).

I tried that brunette DGJ one as well, it was fine but didn't feel it was anything special. Didn't use the oil though.

For fluffiness, which I do suffer with a bit, I really like Lush Jasmine and Henna Fluuf-Ease mask, but it has a very strong scent. I pop it on when I get up and wash it off in the shower half an hour later.

Argania brand is SLS free

Right! Have been in Boots and looked at Argania shampoo. Second listed ingredient is 'disodiumlaurylsulfosuccinate' - is that different to sodium laureth sulfate?

i too have itchy scalp and eczema and have tried lots and some shampoos even natural ones can make it worse i'm using this one www.purenuffstuff.co.uk/hair-care-products/hair-cleanser.htm i get the eczema blend and have found the itchiness and flakiness has gradually gone and my hair feels really soft and is shiney. I get the conditioner too.

I've recently started using Faith in Nature shampoo and conditioner (from health food shops) and have had loads of compliments about my hair since. It seems to have more body and be well moisturised and less static but more 'hairlike'. It needs washing less often too!
A tip I got from here is to shampoo with an old SLS shampoo once ( to remove all the old SLS containing products) and then the second shampoo with the new one, followed by the new conditioner. And I have to say it works for me.
Oh and be careful with Body Shop ones. Many contain SLS so check the labels.

Sodium lauryl sulfate is the one to avoid particularly, sodium laureth sulfate is a bit less harsh, so is the one you mention but I CBA to spell.

Of the Body Shop ones it is the Rain Forest range you need to look for, also the Earth Lovers Shower gels. If you are going SLS free you need to look at your other hair products and stop using products with silicones in, as SLS is the only thing that wIll get them off your hair properly. They wre in a lot of conditionerrs and styling products and are ingredients ending in siloxane and methicone. SLS free and silicone free tend to go hand in hand, so look at the conditioners in the ranges mentioned too. Often products marketed for curly hair are silicone free.
