What to wear? I'm assuming it's not dressy but thought I'd better check, we're in the gods so anything goes? Will it be hot in there?

You're right - anything goes. Definitely not dressy.Sorry, don't know if it's usually hot in the gods. But it's very cold outside today so probably less chance of that than in summer.

Thanks, I'm gonna have to dress up warm coz it's so cold today, might go for easy to remove layers just in case!

As for what to wear: yes anything goes but I love to make an occasion of it and dress up a little more than usual. The last time I went (November) I wore a knee length silk dress which is a mixture of brights and print (Anthropologie), opaques & heels.

That sounds really lovely, but don't think you have to dress up like that, as you'll definitely be in the minority.

I wear that dress for day too. Not dressy, just unusual I guess. But then I approach clothing with the "can't bear to be bland" philosophy.

It'll be got in the Gods, but it's bitter outside! And the coat check system is a pita, so be prepared to stuff your coat under your seat.

ujjayi I don't think that informal and not wearing heels has to equal 'bland' or not unusual. I like casual clothes to have style and personality too. I think it was you yourself who said you liked to 'dress up a little more than usual' when going to the ENO. I was simply saying that was fine but not essential.
