How to style maxi skirts

I have two lovely jersey maxi skirts from fat face which I would like to wear more often but I am a little stuck on what to wear with them. I don't like anything too fitting so would a lose top be ok? Something like this maybe:

www.zara.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product/uk/en/zara-neu-S2013/358008/1117102/LONG%20SLEEVE%20LINEN%20T-SHIRT

Maybe with a belt? What about a jacket, would a blazer work?

Am clearly clueless and looking for inspiration Grin

have you got a link to the skirts?

I can't find them online anymore. They are gone from the website and I can't google them. They are similar to this one though (but maybe a little less fabricy):

www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&tbm=isch&tbs=simg:CAQSUAl8MFoXuLsqmBo8CxCwjKcIGioKKAgBEgLwBxog5GyPdbRqiYeVjxqTi3anON1wgXlhSMyHyhmIeLlFWPwMCxCOrv4IGgAMIVzNyzHkUzQe&sa=X&ei=l24mUa_tMuaT0QX39YCQAw&ved=0CCYQwg4&biw=1441&bih=656&q=jersey%20maxi%20skirt%20outfits

I have one in navy and one in salmon.

Oooh that looks lovely, have been looking for one of these for ages - gutted I missed them at FF. A few ideas;

  • a sleeveless top tucked in, with or without a belt tied round the waist of the skirt. As the skirt is quite full, I would tend to tuck things in to give it a bit of shape. If you were going to layer something over the top I would make it some-thing a bit tighter/close fitting - something with rushing/tunic-like could make for too much material!
  • If you're feeling self concious (or cold!) you could add a cardigan, or a blazer would look lovely too - preferably something slim-cut rather than boxy.
  • Lower neck up top might look better for a bit of balance, seeing as the whole of your lower body will be covered (don't have to be really revealing, just maybe not really high neck!). Then you could add a really striking necklace.
  • navy is a really lovely colour and goes with most things, I always think it looks good with stripes too. The salmon colour might go well with navy or white.
  • a printed or patterned t-shirt tucked in would work really well with a plain skirt. Maybe something like this or this

Hope this helps!

I only wear very slim-fitting maxi skirts, usually with a plain vest or top or jumper and then a denim or biker jacket to give a bit of structure, especially if the top is a bit slouchy.

With the more full one you've linked to, I'd wear a plain cami and then a cropped cardigan or a fitted biker or denim jacket. I don't think slouchy t-shirts would work with the fullness of the skirt.

Thank you cheese. Lots of good ideas there. I had quite a few in different colours last year when I got mine, I am sure they'll come back into the shops soon. I like the idea of a blazer to give it structure. Remus, you are right, too slouchy will look wrong. I think I'll try a couple of different combinations.
