My gel nails look a bit odd

I bite my nails and so last week had gel extensions done as i was going to a party. They looked nice but now if I look at them side on they look like they kind of curl upwards. The tips that come over the end of the finger are sloping upwards, it just looks a bit odd. Do you think this might be because my own natural nail is so small?

No I don't think it'd because your nails are small.

Were they curling up a bit after you had them done or has it just happened? Sometimes the tips are applied in a weird way and they end up looking like that... they really shouldn't though.

Could you put a side on picture up so I can see?

Jemster · 17/02/2013 18:33

Thanks Becky how do I post a picture?

I would say its lifting of the gel nail. Were you given aftercare advice by the technician?

Jemster · 17/02/2013 21:37

Er1507 no she didn't say anything about aftercare, well other than to wear gloves when washing up. Yesterday I had two replaced as they had come off and today they are really badly curled up. Also one of them I noticed is not even covering the whole width of my nail so you can see part of it. I don't know how she could possibly have thought it looked ok. Thankfully I didn't have to pay for the two 'repairs'.
I was thinking of keeping them up to let my own nails grow underneath but maybe I should go somewhere else now next time they need doing? Bit disappointed really.

You should wear gloves when washing up and doing any cleaning. Avoid extreme heat. apply cuticle oil daily. Sounds like them may have been applied incorrectly. I would try another salon.

BeckyBrandon · 18/02/2013 14:28

Agree that they may be lifting, defo go back to the salon you had them done in. They should have told you the "Do's and Don'ts" of gel nails.

Gels are generally weaker the acrylics, and thinner, but shouldn't be lifting so soon.
Try another salon next time, such a shame. Don't let it put you off though, they can look really fab.

Thanks Becky what exactly is lifting? I'm nervous about going back as the girl who did them didn't seem the type who would like any criticism! Also won't she just do the same again? I think she will blame it on my own nails being too short to hold them as she did mention this. Thing is I can't afford to go somewhere else and have them done again.

Lifting is where the gel starts to lift up from the nail bed or tip, biggest culprit for it happening is water, when it gets in there it's a nightmare.

If you look face on at the nail and pull the gel bit upwards, can you see if it moves or if there's a gap or anything like that?
