Have quite a few greys and after having my youngest child I could never leave him for long enough (bf, bottle refuser!) to get to hairdressers so started dying it at home.

I accidentally went too dark and have just continued with same colour as no idea how to lighten it but its really too dark for me and although it looks nice and shiny when I first do it, after a couple of weeks it just looks a bit fake iykwim.

I think I'd like to go lighter and possibly begin having highlights as even dying my hair every 4/5 weeks, the greys just start coming through before its time to dye it again. With it being so dark the greys are really obvious and I don't like :(

Would the grey still look as obvious with highlights? Would I get away with having them done less often than I'm dying my hair now?

And how the blardy hell is any hairdresser going to get this colour out of my hair?

Hairdresser will have to use bleach to get rid of the colour. greys will only be less obvious if the rest of your hair is just as light. Although being blond can help a tiny bit. just take the baby with you and ask someone close if they mind coming along with you in case baby gets fed up and they can go for a walk leaving you to relax a bit but your still there for feeds. colour problem won't be solved straight away so expect a min of 3 visits before its how you want it :) hth

It's ok, baby is nearly 3 now Blush Grin. So plenty of time to get it sorted!

Will hairdresser bleach my whole head or just do highlights over existing colour?

Oh right lol! Depends on what you want. They could just do bleach highlights then use a toner to make the highlights a nicer colour. they could bleach your whole head, known as a bleach bath/cleanse. This will be mixed with shampoo to open up the cuticle. Can be done very gently on the hair if done correctly, then the hairdresser would apply another colour all over. Costs more as a one off but then your problems sorted quicker. What colour you achieve also depends on the current colour of your hair, the condition and your hairs natural texture and how much the bleach lifts through your hair.
