Can anyone recommend a good home dye that would lift medium brown hair to blonde? Do you think I would need a bleach type thing first?

I think you should visit a good salon, otherwise you are very likely to end up with khaki coloured or worse orange tinged hair.

Never has anyone I have known myself gone blonde at home without a disaster ensuing.

Hi, I know but the reason I ask is my dsis has been very ill recently and actually had a lung removed, she asked me to do her hair for her as she isn't up to hours in a salon. I suppose I was hoping one of the 10 minute foams would do the job? Ain't going to happen is it...?

no, it wont. How about a hairdresser that comes to the home?

I agree - get a hairdresser that comes to your sister's place.

Hope she's on the mend

Yes someone to come to you - they just have better products and will have the correct toner etc

ScentedNappyHag · 08/02/2013 22:04

I've done it- but wouldn't recommend it. It came out a nice colour, but wrecked the condition of my hair, I wouldn't do it again unless I was also planning to lose a lot of the length.
I used 40 vol and blue bleach powder (from Sally's) and a beige-ish toned colour, and then used toners every other day for a few weeks. Would have been cheaper and less fuss to go to a salon in the end, but I always know best HmmGrin
I hope your sister is on the mend.

Thanks all. You are right, a pro stylist is the way. And thanks for the good wishes - we have a light at the end of the tunnel after 6 horrible months!
