Shampoo/ conditioner for itchy, sensitive scalp?

For months, I have been convinced I'd caught headlice (even though the dcs don't have them and there are absolutely no signs in my hair). My head is always itching, but there's never any flakiness (thinking not dandruff, then). It's finally occured to me that my shampoo/ comditioner might be irritating or drying out my skin and causing it to itch.

I had a look in the supermarket today for a better shampoo, but I don't know where to start. (I change my brands pretty regulalry depending what is on offer, so I have tried most of the brands out there).. Is there anything specifically for itchy scalps?

Help please!!

I've just seen all of these extra replies. Thank you so much for your help! I am going to go to Boots on Staurday and start with the cheapest option and go from there. Will definitely alternate shampoos until then and see how that goes.

Thanks!

I went to the hairdressers today, she didn't chuck me out so presuming its just my scalp - woohoo.
Seriously, how awful would that be?

Tell me about it! I have been known to get dh to give me the once over before the hairdressers just in case! Thing is with my hair, it's just the itch - no flakes/ evidence of dry skin.

I know this is a zombie thread but thought I'd update it with my new amazing find. I've had itchy scalp for years and it drives me absolutely mad. About 10 years ago I even went to the Philip Kingsley clinic in Mayfair and had regular treatments there alongside using the PK products which really worked, although all at vast expense.

Since then I find that whenever I stop using a 'proper' shampoo such as PK, my scalp soon gets inflamed and unbelievably itchy. My head never feels clean and I am constantly scratching it.

I just tried this Australian tea tree shampoo and conditioner in absolute desperation, after finding that this time round the PK wasn't working, and it's been amazing! Not only was my scalp totally itch free after just one wash, but it's much less greasy. I've never in 30 years found a shampoo that has meant I didn't have to wash my hair daily.

Thought I'd share this as it's so much cheaper, totally natural and free of all the SLS stuff.

Here endeth the gush Grin
